Check out this Linux trick: The Anonym.OS LiveCD "Wired's coverage of the DC area Schmoo Con security/hacker convention includes an article on a project that attempts to use a LiveCD to provide convenient and secure anonymous Internet access for everyday users. The Anonym.OS v1.0 release, put together by kaos.theory security research, is a bootable CD-ROM (a LiveCD) that runs OpenBSD 3.8 and contains a number of tools and configuration options that are aimed at preventing anyone on the other end of a network connection from identifying the anonymized user and/or tracking his or her activities." Quote: from sai tai on 8:16 am on Sep. 21, 2006 The Torpark browser can be stored on and run from a flash USB memory stick, which can effectively turn a PC into an anonymous terminal.<< http://torpark.nfshost.com/
I 2nd Sai tai's recommendation on this. It is brilliant! I tested an earlier release and the current release. IMHO one of the best security solutions available. It is worth noting that it is much slower that running a traditional browser so I mainly use it when I am doing things I want secured. However the security and flexibility it provides makes it well worth the sacrificing of speed.

Quote: from Peter6789 on 5:56 pm on Oct. 5, 2006 - http://www.tiptunnel.com. not cheap though. Anyone ever tried it?
Some of the engineers I worked with tried this...it is good but if you want the full package, pay the price. The nicest thing about this is once you install it, there is very little thought process necessary (until it screws up). For the average user that is thinking about this stuff, you can get a lot of the functionality for free. From the main download sites, you can get IP and MAC address changers as well as proxy masks. Add on the TOR (earlier post) and there is little left. If someone wants your data bad enough, they will get it no matter what. It amazes me how many people leave their wi-fi routers open so anyone can just grab a signal and go. I do this all the time and with a simple packet sniffer, you can gather a fair amount of data. If people really knew what was possible for $1.99 they would be shocked. Other things like encryption or PKI stuff drives people to drink usually but more vendors are incorporating this seemlessly into their platforms. Skype (for example) uses AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with 256-bit encryption. This AES is active on all call, chats and file transfers. Simply put, pretty f'ing secure even over an open wi-fi hotspot.
