Yesterday I had my mobile phone and Thai SIM card stolen in a break in at my home in England.
When I come back to Thailand in early February I shall need to purchase a new SIM card.
Ideally I should like a SIM with a one year validity (valid for 365 days after each top up) as there is often a 3 to 6 month gap between my visits to Thailand. My previous SIM card was a DTAC on their SIMple promotion, purchased in 2006. Before this I had an AIS card, whose validity seemed to get extended by so many days each time I topped up, but this was never anyhere near a year.
I have looked at both DTAC's and AIS' websites and can't find what I am looking for. Anybody know which current promotion I should ask for when I buy a SIM in a 7-11, or would it be easier to go to a DTAC or AIS service center? I have seen both AIS and DTAC shops in Paragon.
Any recommendations would really be appreciated.

AIS service center at Central World Ploenchit 4th floor added 11+ months to my SIM card.
Cost was about 1200B. Took less than 10 minutes.

Just ask for 1 year... 49 baht.
It's written on the package (DTAC).

not sure about DTAC, but the True sim also says one year, but in the fine print says you need to use it every 90 days or it gets shut off,
So read the instructions !

I think you have to topup DTAC only once (like 50 baht or so) and it will not expire.

It does look like the phone companies' business strategies have changed. I have a 1-2-Call sim card, which earlier had a one year validity with the facility of extension for 12 months from each top-up, as explained here earlier. But on my recent trip, when I went for a recharge, the shop attendant explained in good intelligible English (her shop is opposite the Starbucks shop inside Nana Plaza, that red thing at the corner of Suk Soi 3) that the one-year scheme had been discontinued and now the top-up would fetch me an extension of only three months. I enquired if there was any other sim card with a 1-year validity and she replied in the negative. Now my 1-2-Call sim card expires in three months.

When I returned to Thailand, I reported the loss of my SIM card to the DTAC Services Hall in Siam Paragon.
They provided me with a replacement SIM free of charge; allowing me to keep my existing number, call plan and balance left from my stolen card. As I hadn’t registered my SIM card, I had to provide them with a list of numbers that I had previously called to prove the card was mine. I also took my passport.
This meant that I was able retain the SIMple promotion (call plan), so that every time I top up my card it is valid for 365 days.

No fine print on 1-2 Call's year-long expiration date. As long as you've charged up enough at some point, and you still have at least 1 baht remaining on the card, you can stay away for 11 months and 29 days, waltz into the country and your SIM's still good.
