Read this article about the launch of MS Windows Mobile 6 at the 3GSM wireless trade show in Barcelona, this coming Monday. There is a gem of a quote from Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division, elaborating on the development of OS systems on mobile and specifically Windows. He said, "If you went back two years ago and I walked around with my Windows Mobile phone, and I showed it to people, they'd say 'Wow, that is cool! What is it? You'd say, 'It's a Windows Mobile phone,' and they'd say 'What's that?' And now you walk through an airport and you don't get that response." I say, "Maybe what you get now is scorn mixed with derision, get out of your ivory tower buddy, Ms is alienating its customer base every day more." Sarge

yes, there are several browsers available but I'm happy to use a combination of Firefox and Safari. Too many cooks spoil the broth. Sarge

Applescripts already? Damn! You are off and running. In that case, you might want to load a Firefox tuned for your architecture. Firefox Community Builds As far as Camino- you can tweak the about:config in that browser also.

Well, he's right about that - now, you do not get THAT response anymore. "It's a Windows Mobile phone" and they'd say "I'm sorry"

Indeed they do. But we're cooking up a whole lot more than broth nowadays in our page renderings. At the very least then, you might consider a Firefox extension- User Agent Switch Think about it- how many technologies might be lurking beneath your requesting client and that server? Oodles and oodles. Narry a week goes by that I don't find a web page that renders differently in another browser. Thailand is home to countless web sites that insist you run IE6. And that's just not possible.

Printer Sharing on the Airport Extreme. Sarge, you *DO* need to configure your printer and your printer sharing in the Airport Utility application. There is a tab labeled 'printers', which lists your printers, and where you have the option of sharing the printer over your ethernet WAN port was well, an advertising your printer using Bonjour ZeroConf technology on your network. Yes, by default it will show up once plugged in, but this allows you further configurations for both your printers and your shared disks.

As I said in a previous post, I've managed to fix the problem with WMV files and to confirm it so I went to my Firefox Preferences > Content > File types > Manage...> Download Actions: Extension: WMV File Type: WMV file Action: Open with QuickTime Player I wish there was an input line command there, to add MPEG file extensions. I reckon that one either needs a script in OS X to play MPEG file outside the browser or dig deeeeeep inside Quicksilver for plug-ins modification. We'll see.... see screenshot Sarge

yep, done all of the above a day after setting up my 1st Mac. I can even send faxes from the network and have incoming docs faxed to the printer and copies emailed to 2 email addresses. No sweat. I haven't quite configured the Lacie HDD drive in the network (although I can see drive image in my Mac desktop), I plan to do it in the next weeks or so. I give myself 3 or 4 months to get a grip on the Mac and planned network...... by which time the 3 missing links to the final chain will be available. 1. Leopard OSX - 2. Office 2008 for Mac - 3. Adobe CS3. Then it'll be time to severe links with PCs and fly over to bluer skies. Sarge

Don't bet on those 3 months. Leopard: It appears as if it will be released in June, at the WWDC '07. Office 2008: I wouldn;t hold my breath for anything before Q4 2007. CS3: The said Fall '07.

While I don't know about "an input line command...to add MPEG file extensions." I do know you can save yourself a couple of steps using Screenshot Plus. 'Tis freeware at its finest.
