Square Brackets can be accessed via [123] key, followed by the shift key [#+=].

You will then see the square brackets on the top left.

Some of the idiosyncrasies of the keyboard (i.e. the arrangement) take some adjusting over around a week or so, then your typing skills will improve. Also, do not do the Blackberry shuffle (typing with thumbs), but rather type with a single index finger. There's a semi-zen to typing, and once you master it, you can do roughly 30-40 words per minute on it as well. Most people reliably manage 20 wpm.

I agree that the sms functionality is rudimentary, or rather, I bemoan not being able to send to multiple recipients - which I'm sure they will fix, once they figure out an elegant interface solution (I would just give different respondents different bubble colors).

Caronte's lament about Word and Excell support is semi-true. You can review Word and Excel documents just fine, if they are mail enclosures (the mail attachment viewer handles a slew of document types), but actually editing those files is still elusive - this may change after February, as third parties (or even Apple) may provide apps and utilities to do this.

In the meantime, I created a separate 'documents@mymail.com' account that I mail documents to, that I want to organize and review on the iPhone. Works, for me, in a rudimentary manner.

The question is will Apple allow independent developers to produce programs to run on its phones or will it make the same mistake it made with the early Apple computers and lock itself out of the market...
Dude, will you PLEASE pull your head out, and FOR ONCE (I know, that's asking a lot from you), post something informed, based on actual, current, information?

Apple is planning to release an iPhone SBK for third party app development in February of 2008 (which, realistically, means February 28th, i.e. it will be available in March). This is old news, and was something that 10 seconds of Googling could have told you.

They are doing it -- and I find it amusing how you constantly bemoan how the iPhone, Generation One product from Apple is (allegedly) so far behind your Nokia Generation 6 product, of a Generation 3 operating system (in other words, you have what you gloat about, thanks to 10 years of development).

While Nokia phones are nice phones (I used them for years, loyally, and would probably now have an N95 if the iPhone had not happened), if you pause and think how long it took Nokia to get there, and what Apple achieved in far less time, with a Generation One product - I certainly makes Nokia (and others) pale.

Additionally, thanks to the intelligent use of the touch design, and the use of a screen as the interface element, there are no issues of having to redesign or reissue new hardware to accommodate new buttons or new interface elements -- i.e. your Generation One product will be able to provide you with years of service, through simple software updates -- something Nokia has never been able to deliver, and certainly not for iPhone's price point.

How much did you pay for you N95, China Sailor?

strange
Sufficiently advanced technology may seem 'strange' to those not familiar with it.

If I had a dollar for every time a software company missed a release deadline or provided a release that did not have what it was advertised to have, I would be able to retire today.

It ain't here yet Duck and until it is I would not 'blow my trumpet' about it. Meanwhile, the third party apps are here and available for Nokia.

As for how much I paid for my Nokia it was posted earlier in this thread, but since you do not have the courtesy to read posts completely I will repeat it.

I paid SGD 485.00 (with a $65 voucher for ilPrego @ The Raffles). For those who are mathematically challenged that is USD 323 or GBP 162 (not including the voucher)

Meanwhile the 8GB iPhone (just googled on the internet) is USD 399 for the 8GB model at Cingular (that would be with AT&T contract) and USD 599 on eBay. This is comparable to the Singapore price for the N95 8GB.

Price is not the issue here Duck, flexibility and functionality is...
