Apple will soon release a version 1 glove that is compatable for the first 10 minutes,,,then you need to upgrade to version 2 gloves US$999.00,,,,thermal design optional at an extra US$300.

Gotta understand y'all. Steve Jobs is not profiteering here, he is just recovering the R&D costs of centuries of glove development efforts ...

Here are my observations after playing for a week.

SMS
Like I mentioned earlier very rudimentary.
- Can't send to multiple recipients or to a predefined group
- Can't delete individual msg (had to install another package to do this)
- Can't forward a message (had to install another package to do this)
- iPhone doesn't display SMS sent to the SIM correctly, characters gets garbled. I use DTAC, and when I try to access my online account it sends me an access code via SMS to my SIM card and not to my Inbox. (Workaround: had to install the aSms package to read it, but have soon figured out a way to decipher access code).

One of the reasons for getting iPhone was to be able to write SMSs in different languages. So far, this has proved to be a little challenging. I have only managed to install the Chinese module (from http://www.iphone.org.hk). No luck with Russian language as they wanted 500 Rubles for that package. Will look for other alternatives.

Tried installing Thai fonts, it worked for a while and then it crashed the iPhone. Tried it again after a restore, and it did something strange by preventing me from installing newer packages. So, I restored the iPhone once more and didn't bother installing it. That means, I won't be reading Thai SMSs for a while. There was a Thai keyboard input, but it doesn't work with 1.1.1 firmware yet, so I'll just have to wait a bit.

Phone number recognition doesn't work properly.
For us in Thailand, when we get a call from a friend locally, the number shows up as 08X-XXX-XXXX, now if you have stored your number as +668-XXX-XXXX, the number won't be matched to your address book entry. And if you have stored your friend's number in the 08X-XXX-XXXX format, that wouldn't work if you tried calling it from another country, while you were roaming. The work around was to store the number in both formats.

GPRS
Ah even, with the Data Roaming option switched off, the iPhone was still accessing the GPRS when I surfed the net using a Wifi connection. I found this out after finally managing to access my DTAC account. Had to install yet another package to disable it. Now, no more GPRS charges.

Viewing PDF documents
With my vast collection of PDF documents, one of the functions, I really require is to be able to read these stuff offline. Well, after some digging around, I managed to get it. Had to use iPhoneDrive software (for Mac only http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iphonedrive/) to transfer the files to a directory in the iPhone, and then use the PDF viewer package. It is only version 0.3, so can't expect much from it. Can't jump to a specific page, nor does it remember where I last left off, so it can be a pain when trying to read a few hundred-page document. Also, it doesn't support the landscape format as with the Safari.

So, another idea was to store the PDF document on a server, and then view it using Safari, since it is able to open PDF documents and I get the rotate feature. But this means you need to get online in order to view that document, as Safari does not support local file access (yes, I have tried that already!).

Videos
If you have a video that you'd like to keep around and show off to your friends, then you can use iSquint (Mac: http://www.isquint.org/) which converts most formats to iPod viewable format. Oh yes, you convert your favorite full length movies and watch them on your iPhone/iPod.

Photos
Okay, I don't use iPhoto as I just don't have enough hard disk space to store all of my photos. I have over 40,000 photos, and until I get that 1 TB drive to store them all in one place, I won't bother with that. So, I had to create a folder for my iPhone photos as I can't seem to select photos from multiple sources in iTunes. And in addition to that, iTunes then creates a damn large version (about twice the size) of the images in a folder called "iPod Photo Cache".

Small bugs
Sync - photos in Address book don't transfer across to the iPhone, but it works the other way around, from iPhone to Address Book.
Bluetooth - doesn't work at all. No devices show up even though my other Bluetooth devices (MacBook and Sony Ericsson) can detect each other.

Camera
This part sucks big time. Image is too dark, well, I don't normally go out in the day, so don't expect me to take day time pictures! Anyway, it's all in the software, so we can expect some better features soon. At the moment, no zoom and no video. I'll stick to my trusty Sony for now.

In spite of it downfalls, which is temporary, it's still a great addition to my gadgets.

Now that's a great review. Yes I am also sticking with my SONY as it has the three things I want in a phone.
1. A phone
2. A good camera with a flash
3. A flashlight

I will go for the iTouch which has most of the iPhone features without the phone as soon as they come out with a new model with 32G storage, probably Sept. 2008.

BK have you looked at the SONY K850i?

The worst thing about the iphone is the ringer.

You can only just hear it. I have missed numerous calls because I simply cant hear the ringer...

Apparently some of the gripes above can be fixed by installed a few of packages from the i.unlock.no site. These are some problems experienced with the 1.1.1 firmware.

Phone numbers not being recognized:
Phone # to name fix

EDGE not switching off
EDGE Settings fix

SMS in SIM garbled
SMS Fix

Abrak, try inserting your iPhone upside down in your pocket as the speakers are at the bottom of the phone. That could help.
