Quote: from DaffyDuck on 7:07 am on Jan. 8, 2007 The problem is that they didn't do so well with Gates at the helm, either. If Balmer were replaced, it is doubtful that anyone with vision would take his place - chances are, it would be just another suit.
LOL Ain't that the truth! They wallowed around like engorged pigs for years on their market share whilst offering hollow promises to the minions. And all the while, what they should have been doing was to clean up the buggy source code underpinning Windose. But since they did not, and since they jettisoned the starting-from-a-clean-slate concept that Vista should have been- and OS X at launch was- and demanded instead that Vista shall run all legacy Windose apps. Well, that pretty much guarantee the black-hat malware/phishing camps an easy hunting season ahead. I foresee the days of the Windose Desktop waning. I ponder if Vista might turn into a debacle that works against their dominance. Of course, I've been pondering that for several years now. Yet given the present processing environment: e.g. dual cores, quad cores, octal cores, etc. commensurate with the development Wine has attained recently, coupled with the sophistication the present Linux desktop is today, it seems very likely that a mass migration could occur on a not too distant horizon. But I digress.... That was why I suggested his Steveness: Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone with more vision. They'd need every last bit of it!

Exactly - actually, all they would need to do is revise VBS script to make it more secure (most exploits use VBS), which requires no authentication to do anything it wants. Some Windows journos are now looking at Applescript, claiming it is Apple's achielles heel in terms of being 'exactly' like VBS -- well, exactly like VBS, except it requires authentication for any system tasks - and unlike Vista's 'authentication' (which does not require any password entry, but is just a dialog box with an 'OK' button -- that is scriptable!!!!), will not allow making modifications sigh-unseen to user or system space. I find 'articles' by Windows 'analysts' quite entertaining in that regard, since it's obvious they don't know what they are talking about (*cough* Rob Enderle *cough* Paul Thurrott *cough*) - though unfortunately their idiocies keep getting regurgitated by Windows users and their readers ("You know, the Mac has a virus as well" "You know, it's just a matter of time until the Mac is covered by malware"). In the meantime, I just sit back and get my work done... and smile.

well, "our man" will be among the syncopates inside the San Francisco’s Moscone Center giving a standing ovation on Tuesday 9th January. He should diligently take minutes of the ecumenical speech of St. Steve of Appleland and report back here like a good boy scout. Macworld expo 2007 Sarge

Thanks for that offer, Daffy. In years past, I used to read the always impressive Engadget Blog, this year they've even got a page up anticipating the demand, here:Live from Macworld 2007: Steve Jobs keynote. But MacWorld is just too important for to me to settle for anything less than a link to the streamed Stevenote. I have yet to find the URL for that.... [hint, hint]

There's none, unless you have access to a satellite downlink. You may also want to try hanging out in one of the AppleCentres, though I'm worried they may be closed
