Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their advice. Ended up buying an Orange pre-paid card. 50Baht wasn't enough so I topped up 1000baht with extended expiration for 150 days. I think it'll work out fine for me. Thanks.

One thing to note is international txt messaging and the option to email pics.
Took a phone with a camera then made the mistake of buying orange.
A girl I was with with the exact same phone changed her number from orange to dtac as she said dtac lets her send and recieve international txt messages and also send pics to an email address. She sent me a pic vie email and it worked with dtac.
Just incase these things matter something to consider.

International text messaging is no problem with Orange. You just have to register with Orange first.
MMS.. not quite sure if possible.

Well the txt thing makes sense as I found it hard to believe you couldn't do it but also I couldn't figure out how to turn the feature on.
Emailing pics using the phone would be useful as I kept running out of memory and having to delete a pic so I could take another one or have one sent to me from a girl. Kind of sucked, would have been nice just to email them to myself instaed of having to delete them.
Anyone know if you can turn this feature MMS on with orange?

No mention on their site - so I guess.. no.
BTW The MMS feature is only available on the monthly 'My' packages, not on the prepaid 'Happy' cards.
So we're comparing features of prepaid cards with those of monthly packages... not correct.

OK got it regarding MMS but what about internation txt messaging? Is that only an option on the monthly packages or can you turn it on somehow with the prepaid cards?

Orange - yes also on prepaid cards. And you don't have to register for it (using it myself). Out of the box.
Orange has an advanced system where you can have menu added to your phone (like thai sms, transferring credit between Orange subscribers.
I sometimes tip a Soi 33 girl by transferring 10 or 20 baht to her phone. Then I am sure she won't spent it on her boyfriend

Need some help from the bros - DD not included - I took CG advice & asked the telewiz shop in MBK to sign me up for "Freedom Plus". Only drawback is that I forfeited approx. 10 months of validity. Not a big deal really. CG is right - the cost under freedom plus is 2.5 baht a minute for voice & 2 baht for SMS and thus a signifigant savings (close to 50%). My girlfriend uses Freedom Sanook. Here is my problem: Nowhere can I find - in writing - the various Freedom plans - known as "Freedom Choices". I have asked numerous Telewiz outlets & been into the dedicated 1-2-Call shop in Seacon Square. Not available - sorry did I forget to mention English language brochure?
Ditto the 1-2-call website - absolutely f***in' hopeless. Wonderful if you are a Thai but next to ZERO English.
So guys help me out here! Thanks
