well, I don't know what the deal was with those.bin files, but I found an application called "decoder" that handles macbinary I, II, and III. it works like a charm for the files. thanks for looking into it a little for me. -myrth

Good question. While it may not be necessary- especially given just how good Spotlight is- I'm thinking they're weaving in some quick-launch action ala Quicksilver isn't such a bad idea. No matter how you slice it, I much prefer having numerous choices.... Now is it just me, or does that Google Desktop X page bear a striking similarity to David Watanabe's Inquisitor?

Quote: from Sarge on 7:39 am on April 7, 2007 worrying news for you Linux aficionados and iPod users, Podloso is out there to get you!
Heck! That's not even worth yawning over. Specifics according to the TUAW are thus- it goes like this: First, you have to install Linux on your iPod. Next, you have to install the virus to your Linux-capable iPod. Then you have to launch the virus, because "Podloso cannot be launched automatically without user involvement". Once launched, it infects all executable.elf files with a lame message.

Quote: from Sarge on 7:28 am on April 7, 2007 I hope that Apple is going to surprise us and ship next G MacBook Pro models with Blue-ray drive as standard, thus upping the res antes.
At $800, it certainly won't be standard, and it also won't be BTO (Built-To-Order), unless the drives drop in price, are standards compliant, and Apple DVD player can play BluRay discs. One gross oversight of Apple DVD player since the beginning has been the inability to play VCDs, which is a huge vacuum for Macs for sale in Asia. Apple adamantly has refused to support that format, albeit DVD Player supports all that's needed to play it. Instead, Macs in Asia have to use VLC... VLC will probably support BluRay before Apple does

Good to know, and glad you got it working -- like I said, my newsreader just decodes them during download.

Aside from an incredibly small number of geeks that stupidly install Linux on their iPods, lose functionality and features, and get infected by this virus -- I really don't think we have to worry about it. At all! Though I am counting the minutes for the media to report how iPods are now virus infested...

dunno 'bout USA but this beauty and "apple of my eyes" (pun intended) it definitely cheaper than OZ. Best purchase of the year, go for it. Plus it has the all too important dual Eng-Th keyboard. You teerak/mia noi/mia luang/gik/khondee (the more the merrier) will love it!

VLC Player is one amazing app. I actually prefer it to Apple's native DVD Player now. The GUI on the latest iteration, especially the controls layer in full screen mode is as good as it gets.

Always cheaper in the USA, as you can take advantage of discounts, and Apple's deals on refurbished equipment (Mac minis as low as $600, MacBooks for $900, MacBook Pros for around $1,500). Sarge's crucial factor was to have a unit with dual Eng/TH keyboard, and as such it appears he actually got a really good deal, comparatively speaking. I solved the issue simply by picking up an external USB Thai keyboard at Panthip (now, making sense if it is an altogether different issue).
