Now try explaining this to someone who picks up your iPod playing at a party and wants to pick the next song playing.

Wasn't your big criteria of this feature "to protect us from the party lame ass's that think disco never died and fills the queue with Bee Gee songs." - seems the overly complicated feature that you seem to object to, meets the criteria you set...

You want your cake and eat it too ?

No ease of use and the ability to pick decent songs have no correlation. I happen to know a tech wiz that still thinks dance music is disco.

Butt you do illustrate the fundamental problem with Apple lovers, they cannot accept any critics of their products and defend the product/company to nth degree to the extent that it beats any Nationalism that I have ever seen.

In regards to the stock, I may be eating crow on my prediction. Ipod sales flattening was definitely expected. The iPhone product I think is still not bad and running according to plan. Most likely a 3G version this year, but the part I was looking at in increasing revs was movie rentals.

Let me the first to tell the Emperor that he is wearing no clothes. I tried the service here in Thailand and love it. The problem is the selection or lack of. From his emperor’s speech you would surmise that he had all of the movie studio's catalog's. Such is not the case, a very small subset of movies that you would actually want to watch. Secondly, many of that small subset is available for purchase only and not rental.

I agree with Abrak on laptops, I have a SONY VGN-TX47SP that is super small, 15 hr Battery life and all the bells & whistles.

(I mean the Mac Air is hardly wow. My Vaio G11 is lighter, has 3 times the battery life and a dvd burner.)

Weight:
MacBook Air: 3 lbs. Sony Vaio G11: 2.5 lbs.

Battery:
MacBook Air: 5 hrs (claimed) 4 hours (verified) Sony Vaio G11: 9 hours (claimed) ???? verified. Your claim that your Vaio can do 3x the battery, would place it at 15 to 12 hours. 9 hours is already pretty impressive. Not sure why you feel you need to 'exagerate'; Having a drive built-in is nice as well.

Of course, those specs come at a price - the Vaio has a 12" screen, stuck in 4x3 format, and the processor runs at 1.33GHz - the MacBook Air has a 13.3" widescreen, full size keyboard (with backlight), and better wireless; The Vaio has ethernet built-in, and a better hard drive.

We can split hairs until we're blue in the face - point is, the MacBook Air was developed for several reasons, and a target demographic that is clearly not you (nor me). The R&D spent on the MacBook Air is meant to trickle down into an upgraded MacBook Pro and subsequent MacBook, which *ARE* going to be very popular, and sell very well, while pushing a new user and product metaphor.

What I would really like to know though is whether AAPL has any products coming through that might change our view of them.

You know what? I keep explaining these things, including speculative roadmaps, and estimated future products, over and over -- if you can't figure it out by now, after all I've explained, then you are a pretty sorry excuse for an 'analyst'. Sure, you can toss around numbers with the best of them, but it seems you don't really grasp the big picture.

The really interesting question is whether one should now buy it at US$120 especially given the fall from US$200 in 6 weeks? I am sorely tempted. However there are a couple of problems.
I have explained, ad nauseam again, that my strategy is 'buy and hold' and that my outlook is for the very long term (i.e. 10 years or thereabouts) - as such, temporary dips in the stock do not trouble me one bit, in fact, they are only opportunities to pick up more stock at a bargain. If I pick up more stock at $120, and it drops to $100, it won't bother me - I'll just pick up more... simply because I am quite familiar with where Apple is planning to go, and what Apple is planning to do. As such, I am comfortable seeing a doubling of my initial investment within 12-18 months, or further out.

Now, what I find fascinating, especially coming from you, a proclaimed stock analyst, is how you are shortsightedly fixated on AAPL dropping, and acting as if it were the only stock in the market dropping. In case you didn't notice, nearly all stocks had dropped significantly during that same period when AAPL went from $200 to the present state. It's the economic outlook, silly, that's driving these drops and this selling-off of stocks, and it's happening across the board.

Google went from over $600 to close to $500, just as an example - yet, it's the same old story -- whereas previously the whine was "Apple will never establish market dominance with the iPod", now we have "Apple will never maintain growth", despite the fact that PROFITS grew, from less iPod sales -- and now there are fears based on Apple scaling back iPod production, which is just another display of stupidity on the part of these analysts. I'm sorry, it's just so exasperating hearing idiots 'analize' minutiae, without trying to grasp a bigger picture.

If you are genuinely interested in more outlook on AAPL, send me a PM. It's pointless to continue this in public.

What do you expect from the only publicly traded religion...

... and you are right about that, and that will happen. I just find it hilarious that the service hasn't even been out a month, and already you are complaining how immature it is...! Dude, did you ever check how the iTunes music business grew, over time, building up momentum? He has all the studios on board, but nowhere was it claimed that ALL movies, of ALL TIME were available for rental -- you know there's a physical limitation to how fast stuff can be digitized? I have a vague connection to a studio, somewhere, and I can tell you that this doesn't happen overnight -- and he was pretty clear that 'new movies will be available for rental within 30 days of DVD availability', and that newest releases will be available first, and then studios will work towards growing their libraries with the legacy products. This is just common sense. Complaining in the infancy of the service, that there aren't a gazillion movies available is just plain silly.

Duck,

I owned an Apple PC when you were still in knickers. In fact its still up in the attic collecting dust. The point you miss is that you take on any comments that question Apple or Jobs as a personal vendetta.

In short, unlike most of the Apple owners I know, you have become a zealot. Hell Duck, Goebbels was not as good as you are at spinning propaganda...
