Most HD movies on disc are at 1080p (progressive scan) which is better than the highest HD TV broadcast resolutions of 720p or 1080i (interlaced)
Just as a general piece of information, should any of you end up being driven to think you *must* have 1080p HDTVs.... It is nearly impossible to tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p beyond 6 feet (2 meters) away from the viewing screen. Ditto with 720p and any of the 1080s - where the difference can be noticed when the images are next to each other, or in the case of very fine text, but otherwise is nearly imperceptible.

Of course, the premium, currently, to reach 1080p is several $1,000s, so it's up to you if those last 5% of picture clarity are worth multiple times the cost of the TV or projector.

HD discs are what you see in the retailer showroom when shoppng for a flat panel TV, which unfortuneately is much better than you get when watching HD broadcast or cable TV.
That's in the case of a *good*, no, make that GREAT retailer. Most average stores pushing boxes out the door use pretty lame sources to feed their HDTVs. Also, be aware that 'demo' HDTV materials are usual these beautiful, static nature scenes, with very slow pans. If you are evaluating an HDTV, make sure to feed it your own source materials in the store, including high-speed action scenes, and dramatic changes between high and low contrast.

This is where good HDTVs will shine, and cheap implementations will break up via lots of artifacts, pixelations, and bandings.

Every big box store I have ever been to (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) plays 1080p video discs on all (or almost all) of their demo sets. This usually pisses me off, becasue often I go over to the TV sets to watch a broadcast sporting event for a few minutes, and I cannot get any of the broadcast or cable channels on their demo sets.

I will admit that most of the sets are not adjusted correctly, but they usually have good source material.

Anyone who "must have" an iPhone, must have a HD TV with 1080P resolution (unless it is smaller than 40" diagonal).

I have the honor of announcing the soon to come Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. This one is by looking at itīs tech details far better than iphone. And of course - would competition sit still? I have seen pictures of it and certainly looks really nice. Will get one for sure when it comes out.

I wont go too much into the debate about the differences in HDTV and all the parameters you have to take into consideration to make full justice to the far better and improved images you of course get. You do see a clear difference. But again - is it upscaled 720 or 1080i or p, which also tells you what framrate the images are run at. Is it an average or very good plasma or lcd tv. The real difference is very obvious when you compare in a really good projector.

The clarity, colors, sharpness, contrast and light - all factors that naturally is superior to the older system - even though still very good and enjoyable to watch - until you come across a really perfect installed system! And remember - no tv or projector can be taken out of the box and run at highest performance! It needs to be carefully tuned - preferably by a technician with special equipment. The difference with such tuning I would say increases the image quality up to 50%!

Home movie presentation today (in a good tuned system) is better than celluoid film in your local theater! That is how far itīs come.

And yes - if rumours are right it seems Blu-ray won the battle which perhaps is not that much of a surprise really. If true prices will soon start plumeting.

Now it is siad that 720p is better than 1080i and that you cannot really notice much difference between regular DVD's and the HD resolution until display size is 50" or greater.

But really 1080P is becoming the new display standard for yesrs to come so if you are going to buy you my as well get something that will last for a while. The prices of displays are dropping so fast that there is it not going to save you much money anyhow.

Yes Jojje SONY looks like a winner. Not as good styling as the iPhone, but not bad and all the features that I would want in a new phone.

Actually, the Sony Experia looks like a very sweet phone, indeed. Great design, and quite functionally designed. The real handicaps it will have to overcome are two-fold:

- it's being marketed and, most of all, supported by Sony. It's not actually made by Sony, but rather HTC, which means build quality should be decent. Yet, being supported and marketed by Sony would prove to be it's Achilles heel.

- what operating system and user interface does it run?

I really like the slider design, which should give it some good appeal with the Sidekick crowd, but the above two issues concern me.
