Yup! That's the downside to their specials- inventory reduction portends the new model release. Oh well, at least the Touch will be current, for awhile...

I´m writing this from my HP PC on OS X Leopard. Yes, Hackingtosh - I know. I have not used this partition for a while - the main problem being my laptop´s wifi card was not supported and the audio just through the speakers (I´m not complaining, just stating the facts - must be hell to be Microsoft to have to support all that shit floating around). On a fluke I ordered myself a USB wifi dongle and a new sound card (a Creative xmod - oh, what a difference) ; to put a long story slightly shorter: After using this for 2 days I will not go back to Vista (XP was alright - I would thought a new OS would be an improvement). My question is kind of rethorical, but maybe some of you have some inside info on this: I want to buy myself a new Macbook/Macbook Pro (have not really decided), but looking at the online rumors - it does not seem to be wize to do so at the moment. News ahead. I am happy with my current Hackintosh setup for a while, so I can wait. But for how long? Some say 9th September?

Wait another week - there is a possibility that September 9th will ONLY be new iPod intros, with nothing else, but I believe that the MacBook line will be revved as well - not sure yet if both the Pro and the regular MacBook will be revved both, or just the MacBook (as originally happened) as it will see the greatest change. Either way, as you stated, you're in no rush, and I wholeheartedly suggest a week or so of patience. Feel free to ask if you have any further questions about configurations, etc... >... to put a long story slightly shorter: After using this for > 2 days I will not go back to Vista I had to over the above...

Thanks, I will wait for the new ones to be released. I´m pretty sure it´s going to happen before Christmas. The only thing that does not work on my current setup (that I know of) is sleep/hibernate. OSX boots fast, so not much a problem. I could probably try to fix that, but will not bother (it is interesting to look at the osx86 forums and see how much time people are spending on getting their systems up and running).

There's a couple of hackintosh distributions out there, and some are better with sleep/hibernate than others -- yet, since these features are mostly hardware dependent (i.e. some card or built-in hardware can override it), even a perfectly supported sleep/hibernate installation can be brought down by a non-compliant PCIx card. The same happens on the Mac, FYI. Yeah, I find it sometimes amusing how you can follow a thread of some guys discussing how the Mac is overpriced, and they prefer building a hackintosh.. only to proceed spending an inordinate amount of time, and buying insane hardware amounts, and end up spending more in time and hardware, than the Mac mini they deemed 'too expensive'. But it's a fun sub-culture, and my hat's off to the diligent folks working on making this happen and continuously simplifying the installation process (though, realistically, they could not be doing it if Apple didn't explicitly condone what they are doing, as Apple benefits from it, and knows it.

It seems like the MacBooks will be revved on October 14th.

Can't stop the revolution -- Apple is rolling out online stores in all locations where they release iPhones, it seems. The HK one is out as well.
