Don't try to reason with Mr.Alan - he's got his own cult allegiances guiding him.

I respectfully disagree. While I do think there is a cultish element to the Apple brand, I think it has only a minimal influence over its stock price.
We will have to agree to disagree.

....."These people camp out overnight by the stores, buy the products, swear by them and typically assume a 'holier than thou' attitude about their gadgets. However they have very little ability to move stock price."

....."Lastly, the true Apple cultist never sells his stock. He hangs on to his 50 or 100 or 1000 shares forever because he is convinced it will make him a millionaire one day."

Does this sound like anybody we know?

daffy, you really like to twist things,,,Quote"Let's see, though, regarding your argument - I last bought AAPL stock at $130, so, it would appear that I'm in dire straits, according to you."

I did NOT say anything like that at all.

My point was some who bought at $195 and see that stock at $122 would not be happy.
The second and MORE important point was even at USD 122 they are in excess of 30 times earnings,, that worries me.
Example,, most of my money is in St George bank shares,, they have fallen substantially lately along with the market, but at today's price they are at ONLY 15 times PAID dividend ( fully Franked = tax already paid) so even if the market stays flat,, even if they fail to improve their profit margins I get a 6.5% post tax profit in worst case scenario. That is what I call safe shares.

Mel.

I'll never dispute that AAPL, or any sort of stock investment, is of a higher risk than, say, US Savings Bonds, or something equally boring, albeit safe.

The same advice will always apply to the stock market - never invest what you can't afford to lose. I have quite a bit of shares in AAPL, and if the stock tanked tomorrow, it certainly would be a loss, but I'd still be fine.

If you do not have that luxury, then safer investments are a much better bet, certainly, no dispute on that.

Lastly, in closing, those who bought AAPL stock at $195 will still end up sitting pretty in a couple of years down the road, as long as they do not listen to their broker/analysts

Look at the long term:

http://finance.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ:AAPL

(by the way, here's another reason why Yahoo is in the trouble that it's in -- the above chart is from Google's stock chart at finance.google.com. I initially wanted to link to Yahoo's finance page - but quickly changed my mind. Why?

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=aapl&d=t

That's why!

Yahoo is crammed with adverts, initially confusing because the data is badly organized, and gives you a lot less data (much less a usable graph).

Now, compare that to Google's link above.

'nuff said.

Yahoo's in trouble because they suck, plain and simple.

Daffy,, finally we have some common ground.
Yep agreed investors who buy at peaks only require time,, time, to recoup loses.
Havn't looked for the link, but someone calculated returns on investment over 20 years with purchases ONLY at the Peaks,, still had excellent returns.

iPhone coming to Singapore.... in September?

This is interesting, as this appears to be part of the AIS / SingTel / Optus deal going down, i.e. if Singapore gets it, chances are that Thailand is not far behind (or in front).

I bet China will get it last, considering what idiots they are - especially considering that it could be leveraged into a very good tie-in with the Olympics.

iPhone to reach Singapore in September?

The iPhone will launch in Singapore in September, according to unconfirmed reports. Local broadcaster Channel News Asia claims that a deal has been signed with Singapore Telecommunications, also known as SingTel; while Channel News cites industry sources, SingTel has declined to comment, and Apple has not made any announcements. Such a deal could make Singapore the first country in Asia to carry the iPhone, ahead of more prominent targets such as Japan, Thailand or even China. Singapore is a city-state, with approximately 4.6 million inhabitants.
For SingTel, the deal would only be modestly beneficial, claims the brokerage firm DBS Vickers. "Given iPhone's [appeal], we believe iPhone would lead to higher market share for SingTel," the firm writes. "However, the impact on SingTel's bottom line should not be very significant given Apple's hard bargaining tendency and tough competition from [rival carrier] StarHub." Apple is known to insist on revenue-sharing agreements with carriers, something that bleeds their income and is not asked for by any other phone maker.

DBS estimates that Singaporeans have already bought some 10,000 foreign iPhones to unlock, paying as much as $1,000 SGD ($719 US) for the luxury.

Apple Hard At Work Making iPhone Obsolete

CUPERTINO, CA—Only a month after the much-heralded announcement of the iPhone, Apple CEO Steve Jobs confirmed that his engineers were already working around-the-clock on the touchscreen smartphone's far-superior replacement. "We looked at [the iPhone's] innovative user interface, the paradigm-shifting voicemail, the best-in-class mobile browser, and we realized we could make all that seem ridiculously outdated by the time the product becomes available to customers in June," said Jobs, who described the project as "Apple reinventing the iPhone." "When the second-generation iPhone comes out this fall, we want iPhone users to feel not just Jealous, but downright Foolish for owning such Laughably Primitive Technology."

Jobs also hinted that the second iPhone device would not be compatible with existing Mac computers, third-party peripherals, or any future Apple products
