That being said, for those interested in iPhone, iPhone will be in dah house, at Toxic tonight, as I'll be bringing mine tonight.

Why you SOB! I'm seething with jealousy. Not!

Do tell....were you able to unlock it and use a DTAC or 12Call SIM card?

This should be known, shortly. I give 1-2 weeks max before many versions of unlocking are available. Currently there are 2; but with some issues of how to connect to the firmware.

I am sure they will unlock it b4 Def Con in August. its all about bragging rights for hackers... sort of like the wow factor for those that bought the phone and want to show it off.

They have iPhoneInterface Win/MAC program for those that want to change/see filesystem inside the iPhone which is good for those that dont like the sync options currently.

Ok let's cut the quibbling for a second (for once?) and get back on track here. I know I phone can work with roaming fees, is that limited to phone service only?

No movie mode? Can you clarify? I saw Jobs playing pirates of the caribbean on it. Are you referrring to not being able to take video? That's no big deal and my experience is all cell phone cameras suck at video and photos. Better to get a portable point and shoot digital and bring it around with you.

But the main question is, can you cancel with At&T, sacrifice the internet anywhere service and put your own SIM card in it?

So will the iPhone ATT GSM roam to either AIS or DTAC?

And work with either's EDGE network for internet access? (When a WiFi hotspot is not available.)

Sai Tai,

Its a quad-band GSM phone (GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900). It will work in Thailand and other countries on the GSM system. You will have to activate AT&T international roaming for it to work abroad as a phone.

My T-Mobile sim card in the US works in Thailand and other countries no problem. Some countries not on the GSM system it does not (ie Korea and Japan)

An activated iPhone (through iTunes/AT&T or hack) can still be used as a wifi/media device without the use of the phone feature. But this should be cleared up soon enough once a good way to unlocking the AT&T sim is found.

It should work if the AT&T sim card feature is activated in International roaming. Also it would depend also on the Thai carrier you are using, if they want to open that feature to an outside sim. There would also be a problem with coming to a price for usage between AT&T and AIS/DTAC

Black Cats,

As mentioned earlier the iPhone does not have video recording capability. But can play videos (either online, or if placed via iTunes or through the abovementioned hack of the filesystem).
At this time there has been little mention on all the video formats that are playable (DivX, Xvid, etc) but these are trivial due to time...

As for your other question. CURRENTLY.

You can purchase, wait 2 weeks. Cancel AT&T service. Use one of the hacks (like DVD Jon's) to activate the iPhone and still be able to use it like an iPod and Wifi ability. But with no phone activation/usage.

this however may change in the coming week. with phone activation with an outside sim card (unlocked sim) being very close.

Heard when the battery dies you have to give it to Apple for service to change the battery. Battery charge cost is $75 US. The battery is sodered in the phone.

Well!?! Has anyone seen our duck toting his iPhone about town? I'm dying to hear his impressions...

In the meantime, check out these smokin' hot iPhone wallpaper images:
