Safari on Vista is just about useless. It's a memory hog and crashes often.

I prefer Firefox 3. It has its downsides, but is the best alternative (one would have to install some extensions to get some videos etc. to work). From what I read from apple forums, Firefox is number one there too.

Which is unfortunate, as most sheep don't even comprehend what Safari offers... but, wrong thread to discuss this.

It contains a grunch of new features including Private Browsing (yes iDuck, I know Safari has this already) which would be great for browsing pussy sites.

Opera had it first.
Most of the "features" you see today in Firefox, Safari, internet exploiter, etc., were first done by Opera.
Here is a very well written article on the history of browsers and why, in the author's opinion, Opera doesn't have a bigger share of the market:

Well worth reading.

Safari is tightly integrated into OS X, thus taking extensively advantage of system services. Neither Firefox, nor any other broswers, do so.

Hence, you can send a web-page, unmodified, to your Apple Mail application, you can drag images out of Safari and into Apple Mail app, and they paste as images (everyone else only pastes the link). You can capture a section of a site via Safari and turn it into a dashboard widget, or (with Safari 4) you can turn a site into a self-contained application that runs without needing to open Safari (that last part will find lots of applications on the Windows side, as well as OS X).

Just a couple of minor deets.

I booted over to XP and was able to do this from Opera to Thunderbird and, as expected, from Firefox to Thnderbird, and it was even faster from Internet Explorer to Outlook Express. "Copy and paste" also works.

You can also e-mail an image directly from Firefox and Internet Explorer, i.e., it will open your e-mail client and
attach the image.

Not having Vista on this machine I wasn't able to see what it can do.

In Linux, which I use 99% of the time, and using the KDE 3.5.10 desktop I was able to "copy and paste" a image from Opera to KMail and while it looks like it is an attachment, not a link, if you save it as a draft or just send it, when viewed the image will be in the text, not as a attachment to the bottom of the e-mail.
I'm sure when KDE 4.x is ready for prime time there will greater abilities.

As to turning a web page into an application; why?
What benefit is there from doing so?

Thanks.

This is simply too good for schadenfreude:

http://valleywag.com/5051455/microsoft-announcement-tomorrow-no-more-seinfeld-ads

$300 million for ads to re-align Microsoft and make them 'friendlier'; $10 million to Jerry Seinfeld for 3 days worth of work; Global humiliation -- priceless..!

Edit In: Even better - they are claiming that Seinfeld is not 'out', but that in the new phase of the campaign, they will use a PC look-alike, proclaiming "Hello, I'm a PC, and I've been stereotyped"

It's amazing how our friend Ballmer signed off on this campaign, while being taken to the cleaners.

I believe you are referring to 'momentum' or also known as 'lethargy'. The far more salient number is the issue percentage change in brand value, year over year -- of which Microsoft only showed a measly 1% (granted, better than Marlboro and Disney's 0%).

Brands like Google (43% improvement) or Apple (24% improvement) are the ones to watch, as they show significant brand growth year over year, and will quickly advance towards the top -- while the current ones at the top perform little to no change.

Significant also to see many formerly higher ranked financial institutions, suffering negative growth rates due to the current crisis. Interesting chart. We should check it next year, again.
