Yes, the rumors are probably just "much ado about nothing."

However, Apple did acknowledge his gaunt appearance, and just blamed it on a stomach ibug.

I must say, he did look strangely thin.

The analyst at Piper Jaffray is most likely Gene Munster. Be very cautious of this guy

Thanks for the note. Didn't someone call Piper Jaffray "Apple's other PR unit" a few months back? And don't worry, I am extremely cautious of any analyst!

I heard Jobs is finding negotiations with the Dear Leader a bit perplexing.

Yes, but think of the stakes! Should North Korea get the iPhone first, wouldn't it put enormous pressure on South Korea to be faster in getting the iPhone through the WIPI obstacle, which right now blocks its introduction there? Not to mention it's obviously crucial in Daffy's China strategy!

Well the explanation has been published already, by (fake) Steve Jobs himself, just before the start of the keynote. Here it goes:

Long story short, we had some mishaps over the weekend, starting with the peyote that I obtained for my Friday evening meditation and soul clearing/journeywork session with my karmic guide, Jennie Falcone. As you know, my routine before important keynotes is to go into seclusion several days before the event and spend that time fasting and doing spiritual work with Jennie, who in addition to doing journeywork is also a gifted healer and clairvoyant medium. To be fair, the peyote was my idea, and Jennie was against it, but I insisted. Big mistake, since there was something very, very wrong with this peyote. I mean the psychedelic aspects were all there -- color trails, auditory hallucinations, weird naked Indians -- but instead of the clean wonderful high to which I've become accustomed this stuff had some really bad physical effects in the intestinal region. Think ayahuasca times ten. Incredible pain, cramping, lots of vomiting and liquid you-know-what. Plus I was tripping my brains out so I started imagining that my insides were melting and pouring out of me. Then I remembered hearing a story about how peyote buttons could contain some kind of dormant bug larvae and I started to think that this had happened to me and that the bugs had come alive inside me and now were trying to eat their way out. I've had bad trips before but this was way beyond that.

Anyway, Larry was called, and he sent his medevac helicopter over and flew me to his compound in Woodside. He has a private hospital on the grounds and a team of physicians. They determined that it would be necessary to flush the toxins from my system using a series of high colonics. I'm not going to go into details but imagine you're tripping on peyote and a team of people in white uniforms ties you up, straps you to a stretcher, flies you in a helicopter to some laboratory, then starts shoving hoses up your ass and flushing you out. I thought I'd been abducted by aliens. Katie, meanwhile, had been called and she just stood there in the corner of the room going, "Oh no, oh no, oh no." This was Saturday night into Sunday morning. By Sunday at noon I'd pretty much recovered and wasn't seeing colors anymore, just seeing the walls breathe, and by last night I was able to hold down a bit of clear miso soup and also to remember parts of my keynote presentation. The rest I'll have to do with teleprompters. Fingers crossed.

However, the intestinal effects have not entirely subsided. So Annalisa, my colorist and couture consultant, was brought in and she has managed to create a kind of slim-fit Depends that she swears will not be visible through my jeans, as long as we go up one size to a 28-inch waist and add a relaxed-fit cut. Phil Schiller (speaking of relaxed fit) will be in the wings ready to take over if anything goes wrong. Katie and Annalisa will be in the green room with backup underwear. It's now 6:30 in the morning and I haven't really slept since Thursday night. But I'm really, really excited about the new products we're going to show today. Oh, one more thing: Don't stand behind me.

Stomach bug? Cancer relapse? HIV? Or much todo about nothing?

Just think of the stock tumble should Jobs leave the scene?

Might I suggest he starting eating some meat?

you still cant take a photo and email it
I must be missing something, since that's one of the main things I'm doing with my iPhone, as are many others - in fact, the iPhone is the only phone I've used that makes this process quick and enjoyable.

Clearly, you've never even touched one, or seriously looked into what the capabilities are.

Do a lot of poseurs buy one? Sure, it's a status symbol.

Is it excellent at what it does? You bet - that's why people like them.

So, how does this "can't take a photo and email it" part work for you?

WITH ONE BUTTON? ALL 3 IPHONES I HAD COULD NOT DO THIS, WHATEVER SOFTWARE WAS LOADED ON THERE
YOU CAN TAKE A POOR QUALITY PICTURE (NO FLASH REMEMBER, SO ONLY DAY TIME PHOTOS) THEN SAVE IT THEN WRITE AN EMAIL THEN ADD ATTACHMENT ETC THEN SEND IT

OR WITH BLACKBERRY CURVE YOU CAN PRESS ONE BUTTON, TAKE A CLEAR PICTURE WITH A GOOD FLASH, AND PRESS ONE BUTTON AND SEND THAT PHOTO AS AN EMAIL OR MMS INSTANTLY

so how do you email photos then? I mean the ones you take in the daytime

Sorry, but then you must be an idiot - a GoGo Girl in my room, who had never seen an iPhone before, was able to figure it out, with absolutely no assistance, in less than 2 minutes - she just suddenly started taking pictures of herself, and e-mailing them to herself - she was sweet, but she certainly wasn't the brightest bulb in the pack -- and she figured it out.

You don't quite grasp that whole 'touch screen' concept, do you?

Oh, and while we're at it, how do you 'SAVE' a photo on iPhone, and most of all, how do you 'add attachment' to an email?

Do share with the class, please.

Sounds to me that either you didn't actually use an iPhone (much less three of them), or that you only thought it was an iPhone...

By the way, your CAPS LOCK button seems broken - you might want to fix that.

CORRECTION : Mistake on my part labeling Hutchison as a Dutch operator (somehow I mixed them up with DTAC - weird, that), as Hutchison is actually a Hong Kong owned and operate operator. Whoops.

Read an interesting article, dating back from 2000, that included some information that may still apply, notably as much seems to have played out as the article suggested:

http://www.webb-site.com/articles/3g.htm

The notable paragraph at the beginning points out:

"On the other hand, establishing a presence in HK could be a springboard to Greater China when WTO allows it. The likes of Deutsche Telekom and AT&T may prefer a practice run in HK to establish their credentials and experience to win future licenses in the mainland."

Which seems to be part of what Apple appears to be doing as well, in this case -- setting themselves up in Hong Kong (and Macau) as a springboard to Mainland China -- combine that with Jobs' recent in the MSNBC interview regarding China and it he's certainly playing it well to allow China Mobile et al to return back to negotiations with their face intact...

i use caps look when I quote someone so that you can tell what is the new text

anyway its always pointless posting on this topic because you are so pro apple and anti anything else that you never let anyone get a word in edgeways, the sun shines out of your iphones arse and everyone else's phones are a piece of shit, right?

so what are you going to do with your iphone/s now? throw them away now and buy the "new improved" versions?

even an iphone can be improved upon it seems shock horror

actually yeh I am an idiot, I failed sales 101 and now iphone 101
i watched your demo - and the photo they emailed was an existing one already in the gallery "saved"

on a blackberry you can click to take a photo, then as soon as it has been taken you can delete it or email it immediately using the trackball in one movement

on the iphones I had you had to "save" the photo first and then do the whole routine separately

im not arguing with you, im just telling you how it was with all 3 iphones I had last year from mbk, actually 2, one was from usa

i grasp the "touch screen concept" yes thanks, but watch your demo and you will see there are several steps involved in emailing a photo, I am referring to emailing one that you have just immediately taken WITH A FLASH (you forgot to mention that bit!!)

you're the iphone guru so you tell us how to add an attachment to an email and save photos

no I didnt use my iphones much because my blackberry is better suited to what I want it for - instant email and a good camera WITH FLASH
rather than fancy gimmicks and touch screens which make typing cumbersome

anyway as I said this isnt an argument, each to their own, you like it, I dont
i have the new blackberry bold coming in a few weeks but im sure I will also try the touch screen blackberry thunder in september just to see if it will convert me
lets see
good luck with the apple stock anyway

Besides the 3g capability, I don't see much of improvement...even the design is more or less the same.
And shit, they are still stuck with the 2 mega camera which is a disgrace.
And still no support for editing MS Office documents.
Gotta agree with the fact that it's more a leisure/pussy phone than a business tool.
In fact, after a year with iphone, I am about to convert to Blackberry religion.....
