"...once you get a network signal on wifi of course..." - so you are claiming that, somehow, the BBerry does not need a network signal, or any sort of signal?

no, blackberry uses edge, this is different to wifi
on an iphone unless u have wifi connected and switched on, u require a data signal to connect to the internet, yes or no?
as iphone doesnt / didnt have pushmail system service, then u can not just automatically send an email, u have to be connected to a network of some sort
with blackberry it is always "on" and "connected" thats the beauty, I can send an email anytime, I dont need to connect to the internet first

lying is telling untruths, deliberately distorting something is different, as u should know

for example your link to a forum where someone is having problems emailing, that was nothing to do with the phone - the phone has a one button method to email, as you well know, this link you provided is totally irrelevant, I can just as easily post links to apple forums where people are having problems, for example even just ACTIVATING a new phone?!?!

also, the next link you post is for a blackberry curve 8330 - nice try, this is not even a gsm model, this is a cdma model for usa and is a completely seperate model and set up to the 8320
u forget to point that out to - like you said - deliberatlely distorting the facts

my 8320 shows full html pages, no im not imagining it, the latest 4.5 os allows this facility, its an automatic free software update from rim, via desktop manager. every email I get is full html, and I also have the option to display the page in several different ways, explore, netscape, blackberry browser etc

the ignore function is not recipricol, I had to delete my caches etc, that was the problem, not because u waved your might hand over my computer oh exalted one

what are these blogs that you post? are we supposed to assume that these are the only blogs that talk about unlocking iphones, or are you only posting those ones that fit your argument?
to prove a point, I have just purchased a brand new 3g 16gb iphone, in white, fully unlocked and activated, on the latest firmware software etc, it will be with me in dubai in a couple of days, I will put in several different sim cards and use the phone and take photos to show you, ok?
then maybe you will admit that there is a little bit more information out there than you are prepared to admit
like there only being one iphone hacker
just try digging a little deeper
you dont know everything, sorry dafty
u know a lot yes, but theres some nuggets of info out there that for some reason you wont accept, perhaps because it goes against what you are arguing?

Actually, there are - there is only a very small group of individuals involved in creating jailbreaks / unlocks for the iPhone - really, 2-3 people - and everything propagates from there. In fact, if not for George Hotz, iPhones would never have gotten unlocked, at all.

Oh, this is going to be fun -- now, if indeed you end up receiving a fully unlocked iPhone 3G, I'll be the first one to admit fault, and apologize -- this goes both ways, though, so if you end up having fallen for a scam, and the iPhone 3G, as it arrives, is not capable of accepting your SIM, then I expect the same admission from you.

Now, I'll be nice and give you a hint, as to what you probably bought - a LOT of people are selling 'unlocked' iPhone 3Gs, in which case they are sending you a regular iPhone 3G (locked to a carrier) with the 'promise' to perform an unlock as soon as the Dev team releases the unlock hack - in short, they are betting your money that such an unlock will be available, shortly. Since that's not the case, you may have just bought a shiny new iPhone 3G that you won't be able to use.

The only 'out' in this case, would be if they sold you an iPhone 3G, unlocked from one of the countries that sell carrier unlocked iPhone 3Gs - but those would run you $1,100 to $1,500 and unless it's French or Belgian, would still be tied to a carrier (and France/Belgium won't be receiving the iPhone 3G until the 17th).

So, I do actually look forward to your little experiment - what did you end up paying for this 'deal' - and do you have a link to the dealer you bought this magic iPhone 3G from?

Someone like this, maybe:

http://www.welectronicsltd.com/product_info.php?products_id=339

Mind you, the link came from here:

http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44718

Do notice, there is one guy selling OFFICIALLY unlocked iPhone 3Gs (Australian Bought) :

http://cgi.ebay.com/16GB-APPLE-IPHONE-3G-WHITE-***OFFICIALLY-UNLOCKED***_W0QQitemZ150270451473QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL0807131218r14054

If you're willing to pay $1,500, that is...

Now, finally, you do such a beautiful job illustrating how truly clueless you are about all of this, with your explanation on how superior the Blackberry is by being able to send email without any need to be 'connected' - truly, a magical device.

The iPhone has the same connectivity options as BlackBerry when it comes to cellular networks - GPRS, EDGE, now 3G, but in addition it also offers WiFi.

You do the same with a Blackberry - Blackberry is unable to provide any sort of connectivity, unless it is provided by its associated carrier that provides said connectivity to you. In the case of your Blackberry, that's via EDGE. If you lose your cellular signal, you can't send email.

This is a statement rife with such a blatant misunderstanding of the technologies you use, it is almost hilarious, if it weren't so sad.

'push' email, is completely independent of the ability to 'send' and email. 'push' refers only to reception (i.e. it does not require manual or timed initiation of email reception). Sending an email is always instantaneous - barring the availability of connectivity.

I hate to break a fundamental fact to you, but you DO need to be connected to the internet, or your carrier's network, in order to send an email - Blackberry does not use some magical connection through the ether to provide the ability to send emails. The fact that you fail to grasp this extremely simple fundamental lies at the core of what makes you, on the one hand, so immensely entertaining, while, on the other hand, so terribly pitiful.

You *MUST* be a teacher of some sort - or a telecommunications executive, working for a US telecommunications carrier....

Quack Quack asked at one point what my guesstimates of how many iPhones Apple would sell this year, are. I guess at around 12-14 million.

I might have to revise this number, considering Apple sold 1 MILLION iPhone 3Gs this weekend alone !!!!!

Obviously, this will taper off, but considering it took the original iPhone 74 days to reach that mark, it looks to me like the iPhone 3G is off to a good start.

It'll be nice to compare ErikE's doom/gloom assumptions in another 30 days, seeing as how he's convinced how badly iPhone 3G would be doing.

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/524655-hackers-unlock-apple-iphone
Hackers have succeeded in unlocking the new Apple iPhone 3G just 24 hours after its official launch – increasing the likelihood of it being sold by traders in the UAE which doesn’t have distribution agreements in place.

Apple, which considers the unlocking of the iPhone a violation of its terms of use, has signed exclusive iPhone distribution agreements with network operators across the world, UAE daily The National reported on Monday.

But no such deal has been made for the UAE.

Cracked versions of the original iPhone, unlocked to be compatible with non-partner networks like Etisalat and Du, have been on sale here for more than six months, and the new model will almost certainly follow suit, the newspaper reported.
Despite their premium price, the iPhone is a hot seller. In markets from Dubai to Bangkok, the unlocked first generation iPhone sells for $600 to $800, a markup of more than 40%.

Although the new iPhone is almost half the price of its predecessor – being sold for as little as $199 – resellers in the UAE said they would sell the new device at current prices of at least $598, The National said.

no, because they would have to sell it as "unlockable" or unlocked soon, they cant sell on places such as ebay like that, they have stores and powersellers etc who are genuine dealers
if someone buys a phone from a new member with only 1-2 feedback thats their own risk
mine came from a reputable dealer, well under $1000 thanks, and in a few weeks once ive finished being a twatty poser I will sell it to one of the many people here more stupid than me that will actually pay $1500 for it from me!
and yes its unlocked completely dont worry

NOT AT ALL, I KNOW THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, YOU ARE TWISTING MY WORDS, YES I KNOW WHAT THE IPHONE USES, I WAS SAYING THAT WITH A BLACKBERRY IT IS "ALWAYS ON" YOU DONT HAVE TO PHYISCALLY CONNECT TO ANYTHING, PRESS ANYTHING ETC, ITS AUTOMATIC AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE NETWORK - WITH WIFI YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY CONNECT TO A NETWORK, I MEAN ITS NOT LIKE AN AUTOMATIC PROCESS, IS THAT ANY CLEARER?
SORRY I DONT KNOW ALL THE NERDY ANAL TERMINOLOGY
BUT IM TRYING TO MAKE THE POINT THAT A BLACKBERRY IS AN EMAIL TOOL, AN IPHONE IS STILL A GIMMICK, AND UNTIL RECENTLY IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO HAVE INSTANT EMAIL, LIKE A BLACKBERRY, I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU CALL IT, SORRY
YES I KNOW YOU NEED A SIGNAL TO SEND AN EMAIL, I MEANT ABOUT INSTANT EMAIL ETC AS PER ABOVE

HERE IS A LINK FOR YOU THEN
http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/mail.html

SEE, THEY CALL IT PUSH TOO
ISNT THAT WHAT THIS NEW MOBILEME SOFTWARE IS ALL ABOUT? SOMETHING THE OLD IPHONE DIDNT HAVE?

BY THE WAY IM WRITING IN CAPS SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT IS NEW TEXT SORRY TO SHOUT

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push_e-mail

Although push e-mail had existed in wired-based systems for many years, one of the first uses of the system with a portable, "always on" wireless device outside of Asia was the BlackBerry service from Research In Motion. In Japan, "push e-mail" has been standard in cell phones since the year 2000[citation needed].

[edit] BlackBerry
BlackBerry uses wireless Mail User Agent devices and a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) attached to a traditional e-mail system. The BES monitors the e-mail server, and when it sees new e-mail for a BlackBerry user, it retrieves (pulls) a copy and then pushes it to the BlackBerry handheld device over the wireless network.

BlackBerry became very popular, in part because it offers remote users "instant" e-mail experience; new e-mails appear on the device as soon as they arrive, without the need for any user intervention. The handheld becomes a mobile, dynamically updating, copy of the user's mailbox. As a result of the success of BlackBerry, other manufacturers have developed push e-mail systems for other handheld devices, such as Symbian based mobile phones

[edit] iPhone
The Apple iPhone supported Yahoo! push e-mail since the phone's initial release in 2007. The July 2008 release of iPhone OS software brings Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync platform to Apple's handheld which allows the iPhone to synchronize e-mail, calendars, tasks and contacts with a Microsoft Exchange Server. The software update — which adds other features commonly found in enterprise mobile devices — is available through iTunes as a free download for the iPhone and as a paid upgrade for the iPod touch.[3]

Additionally, at Apple's 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference, MobileMe was introduced as a subscription-based service that stores email, contacts, and calendars on a secure online server — or “cloud” — and pushes this information to various clients including the iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC.[4]
