Or you could just rename the file from xxxx.zip to xxxx.sys then change the default view to not show system files... Maybe right-click on it and make it a hidden file also.

With their encryption system you can do just about anything you want. Even have a version that will do your whole hard drive
Possible options depending on the product
-encrypt your whole hard drive
-have a hidden operating system within another operating system. Boot up the computer and it is all as normal with what every you have installed and put in it then you can run another operating system that is hidden and encrypted
-encrypt hidden partitions
-encrypt nonhidden partions
-creat container files to hold anything you want (of course the container file is encryted)
-container files can be named anything you want with any extension so you could call the container -Bussinessproposal.doc but it would not be a word document file it would be an encrypted container file
-stenganography hide your data into music files
-secure disk deletion (disk wiping)
-ability of resizing an encryted volume if you need more space
-store a container on any media ie CD,DVD,flash card,hard drive or anything else you want
-containers can be small or huge depending on what size you want
Well that sums it up I guess great software just don't ever ever ever ever forget your password
When you open a container or partition it just becomes another drive letter. You can even defrag the container or run programs from a container or partition.

As you mention, you're not a computer whiz, hopefully your GFs aren't either. Below are some solutions I thought of, including what others have already mentioned. Bottom-line: KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly). I wouldn't recommend going with encryption unless you're really comfortable with it. Could run in to bigger problems if you lose your PIN and/or personal encryption keys.

(2) If you're using WinXP, create separate accounts for you and your GF. Make your account an administrator and hers just standard user. She will not be able to access any files in your My Documents folder.
(3) Download and use 'TweakUI' tool from Microsoft (free). MS has different versions for XP, 2000 and Me/98/95, so mind what versin you're installing on your system. A lot of useful features under the 'Paranoia' tab in the Me/98/95 version. One option is to use TweakUI to hide logical drives on your system. In Windows Explorer the drive isn't visible, but you can use the Run command from Start button to open a window with contents of hidden drive (i.e. your pics).
(4) Encrypt folders/files on your drive (not your entire drive).

(5) General system house-keeping
Look at using some tools to delete your Internet history cache, file and program use history (MRUs), picture gallery 'thumb.db' files, etc. Good general system maintenance, plus it may assist in deleting any malware/spyware cookies and trojans that may have worked their way in to your temp folders.

If you're using WinXP, just set up another user-account, and name it something that sounds Windows/Techie/Cryptic - like 'WinXP'
*OBVIOUSLY* password protect the login.
Keep your crap in there. Do you work in the normal user account (you know, 'Your Name').
Your GF will never ask, and if she asks, just say that's some WinXP stuff your IT guys set up, and you don't even know how to get in there - most importantly, configure it so that it automatically logs you out after a certain amount of inactivity - that way, you don't get up, forget you're logged in to the account, and she stumbles across it.
Or, just get a new GF, or dump the one you have for good.
