What is the procedure of bringing a laptop through US airport and then through BKK and back. What to do to avoid any delays. As if regular delays arn't enough.

I am British but trsvel between US & Thailand a few times a year. I have never been delayed by officals (customs...etc) becuase of a laptop for any reason. In US I have been on ocasion been asked to switch it on the the metal detector / x-ray machine check but that only takes seconds.

No delays to speak of. Standard procedure is to take the laptop out of the bag and put it in a plastic bin of its own for going through the xray machine which is no big deal. I've only ever once been asked to start a laptop by airport security and again that's no big deal.

All of the above is true. Be prepared to also remove your belt, your shoes and your jacket. Laptop must be taken out of bag and placed in it's own bin. A real pain in the ass when you consider this is not the case in airports outside the U.S.. First time through security in Japan and I'm taking out the laptop and removing the shoes and the security guy looked at me wondering what I was up to. He just said...."ok, ok, ok".

Not 100% true. In Australia you have to remove your laptop from the bag and it will be x-rayed seperately. You may also be asked in addition for them to run the explosive sniffer over it (Obviously departure).
I've seen belts, jackets and boots being removed in Manila. Also seen anything with a heel put through the x-ray in Singapore.

I hate to agree with Isee but he is correct.
Also if you are travelling through Frankfurt International and Heathrow be prepared to put the lap in a seperate bin for Xray and they also do a random shoe check amongst other things.
They took a Zippo lighter off one guy but let me through with a box of matches...Hmmmm.
Also I came through to UK at Dover from Calais via Tunnel about 6 months ago, and they did the complete search even found every picture and photograph on my lap top.
Some photos I took of girls in various positions were a bit kinky, but not real porn stuff and they seemed to accept that once I told them I am taking a distance learning course in Gynocology. That made them smile. They had loads of questions about Thailand.
They also asked why I had copies of other peoples passport's on my lap top and once I explained it was related to my job they accepted that also.
Just be helpfull and dont get stressed and no one will bother you.

Have had to put watch, phone, camera, keys and belt in trays each and every time. Are there any forms to fill out like the ones they give you on the plane before landing in BKK?

Last time I was in Houston they were putting some sort of "sheet" over the keys to detect any traces of explosive. Some guys in our company also got delayed in the US. They work with dynamite and very small traces were detected on their keyboards.
I very seldom have a problem in London, just the regular X-Ray. Dubai always insisted you turn on the laptop but this has changed recently. - In any case make sure the battery is charged.
