Ran across this mobile phone software from a buddy that I work with, he himself a frequent traveller to LOS. It was pretty cool. They took the book Thai For Lovers and developed it into Thai phrase book for your cell phone. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with my cell phone. Just wondered if anybody had an opinion or previous experience with this software. Oh, the company, Vervata, appears to be in bkk.

It's quite awesome - I bought it orignally for my Nokia 6680, and once you 'bookmarked' the phrases most commonly useful to you, it works pretty well, both to help you retain how to say something, or to look something up.
The neatest feature (though with a bad user interface) is how it can take any of these sayings, and send it as an sms to a recipient -- aside from gasps of "How you write Thai?" it can also backfire, as the girl invariably takes this a proof that you're fluent in Thai, and will respond back -- in Thai, of course. 
It's also a great icebreaker, if you explain that while you don't 'poot thai', your mobile phone does indeed 'poot thai' - lots of fun was had with it as well.
It's a great little gadget.

Thanks DD...think I'll to break down and buy a phone it'll work with now. My buddy seems to fair with it....besides, it had some pretty amusing phrase in there...good for a laugh with a TG!

Yup...I have the N80 now, but the software won't work on it...going to have to get a cheap 6600 to make it work with international SIM chip and software. But I think I have to have it!

For us cheap charlies with a phone which is a phone, as in my Motorola V180, was wandering the phone floor of MBK, looking for a copy of Motorola Phone Tools, plus connecting cable. In an actual shop on a wall, as opposed to an interior counter, found exactly what I was looking for, 300 baht. They had a wide selection for various brands/models...
