Unfortunately, old news - whie Nicholas Negroponte was exhilarated when Thailand (under Thaksin) committed to the first 1 million OLPC order, Thailand has subsequently pulled out of that promise.
It's kind of up in the air. Interesting concept, though I have a feeling that those laptops end up in Panthip or eBay when Mama and Papa need money.

Not all Country folk would sell this learning tool!
they all don't want there daughter's ending up servicing the likes of you!
And may I say only the switched on Thai's are using E-Bay as a selling tool! other wise those 150 t-shirts you after would rise from a 100bht to 500bht

If they don't understand it to be a learning tool, it's just a piece of plastic worth 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 Baht to them. When Papa needs new radio, or Mama needs a new blouse, or a dental visit, the 'learning tool's the first thing to go...
The problem with the OLPC concept is that while it has WiFi, Negorponte's 'vision' is that the WiFi will be used to created these self-contained networks between OLPCs, but he neglects to mention that without a real ISP connection, none of these kids will have access to the real learning tool - the internet!
The OLPC project does not provide for a village-wide WiFi connection, and without that, it's kinda useless - part of the reason why Thailand cancelled the original committment, as someone figured that out. Someday, WiFi will be available in some form worldwide, but until then...

Never quite understood how someone can phrase an intended insult ("...the likes of you...") in such a manner, considering they are not only engaging in the same pursuits (heck, EVERYONE on this forum is), but are most likely presenting the girls with a far worse fate by the way you are treating them... What next? Calling me a 'whoremonger' on a board of whoremongers? Do you see yourself as some knight in shining armour? As some saint? Like I said, odd.

I will try to explain, If I say something that you don't agree with Don't take it to Heart! this seems to be the problem.
How is it a piece of plastic worth up to 5000 bht? they only cost $100 US do the maths or are you getting 50bht to the US $ now I don't think so!

there Linux- based dual-mode display full color transmisssive Dvd mode
there's a second display option that is Black & White reflective & sunlight reactable 3X resolution
it will have NO hard disk though four USB ports wireless broardband they will work as a mesh network each laptop will be able to talk to it's nearest neighbor's creating a ad hoc local area network.
This Will happen in 2007 !
