I say the ecosystem that iPhone created is hard to beat.

Reminds me of an article by some idiot a year ago that predicted that since iPhone lacks an ecosystem it will be short lived. Yeah, I know - 5555,

iPhone 4S Demand
Greg Bensinger, reporting for the WSJ Digits weblog:

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2011/11/17/would-be-iphone-customers-still-facing-weeks-long-waits/

Verizon Wireless customers may have to wait more than three weeks for the device, according to the carrier’s website. That compares with as much as 21 days at AT&T and up to 14 days at Sprint Nextel. While some tech blogs have suggested Apple’s manufacturing isn’t keeping pace, the carriers point to unexpectedly strong demand for the handset.

This just as an addendum to our discussion of sell-in vs. sell-out numbers.

If I were a guessing man, I'd guess that "strong demand" translates into "they sell as fast as they can ship them" resulting in a 100% sell-out.

Must be one of those Apple failures...

(weird how silent tezza suddenly got about this)

latest rumour mill has the iPhone 5 with a bigger display (4-inch) and longer body of about 8mm, no teardrop shape, and why not I liked the various mock-ups 1 and 2 that did round of several Apple centric blogs. It also may sport aluminium metal casing, see mock-up here. Oh well only 230 days until iPhone 5; and of course iPad 3 coming (hopefully) this Easter

but all of them pale into insignificance in comparison with the new MBP coming in 2012, ultra thin 15" taking clue from the MBA and ditching the optical drive and of course sporting Ivy Bridge from Intel

Dude, let's not start with the rumor mill this early, okay?

It just turns into specs masturbation in no time.

Here's what you can easily extrapolate:

iPad 3 - release March/April 2012
will include a higher resolution display, CPU and GPU with 2x performance (i.e. quad-core, A6), better cameras in front and back, and Siri - it will come in the same 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB speeds - jury's out on if it will include LTE support.

Of all the iOS devices, the iPad is most likely to be the first to receive LTE, but there's a 50/50 chance of getting it in 2012. I think 2013 will be the time for LTE. Either way, Apple will continue to strive for a single model that supports all carriers.

iPhone 5 - not sure if Apple will revert back to a July release, or move it to September/October 2012. Personally, I feel that iPhone 5 will now release in the Fall 2012 timeframe.

Basically, the iPhone 5 will follow whatever improvements are introduced with the iPad 3 (A6, better graphics, etc...)

What I think will be far more exciting are the AppleTV 3, and an as yet undisclosed iPhone model destined for the prepay market ($299, no-contract, out the door), which will shake up the smartPhone market, again.

After a Microsoft vp shot his mouth off claiming that their "TellMe" technology was not only there before Apple's Siri, but that Siri is "nothing special", someone decided to test both, head to head.

This video has been making the rounds.

Absolutely devastating.

it seems that those rumours are getting louder, Macotakara is reporting that Hitachi & Sony are shipping 4-inch LCD for a new iOS device. They don't specify which iOS device that screen would be used for, but both the iPhone and iPod Touch are the natural fit for larger display. Now, we only need confirmation for a change of case design (teardrop shape) for the rumour mills to be well and truly underway

The teardrop shape would very much surprise me.

Would be totally weird to hold it in landscape mode, for gaming, e.g.

I agree with patinbangkok for that exact same reason.

iOS mobile devices so far are designed to omnidirectional and work equally well in any orientation - and while the iPhone favors portrait orientation in several native apps, others (like the camera) or third party apps, like gaming, would not be very comfortable.

I *very much* doubt the dumb teardrop rumors.

Mmm, I am glad I did not buy myself an ipad 2 for Christmas, it sounds like it's worth waiting for ipad 3. Will it have a USB port though? (probably not)

There will always be the next generation iPad or iDevice around the corner.

iPad 3 won't have USB in the traditional sense that some people demand it. Of corse, it does have USB access via the 30-pin port, as all iOS devices have always offered.

iPad 3 will have:

- retina style screen resolution
- stronger battery capacity
- combined GSM/CDMA single model (no more separate models)
- possibly, an LTE model (the iPad will be the first iOS device to have LTE, IMO, because of its huge battery life).
- A6 processor, next generation graphics processor
- better front and rear cameras
- Siri
