I could be sending my photos to an online app, but I choose not to, that's what the micro-SD card is for IMHO, but iPhone doesn't have one of those.
Yes, they have on-board memory, but once you choose the size you're stuck with that size unless you buy a new one.

I understand why the non tech-savvy user would want an iPhone, makes perfectly good sense.

Can 4S operate as a mobile hotspot ?

You probably won't be surprised that I still prefer manual transmission automobiles too, but my Accord would have actually cost more with that option, so it's Automatic.

I prefer manual transmission automobiles myself - and it's something I do not compromise - took me 8 years to find my last car, in the exact configuration I wanted.

Yes, I understand that you can use yet another app to store your images online - but that is precisely my point about iCloud - it's OS based, all pervasive, and takes care of *ALL* backups of *EVERYTHING* on your phone.

That's what makes it a convenient 'win'... and while Google allows you similar things with their CloudDrive (or whatever they call it), Google has lost my trust a long time ago, and I don't need them to have access to the EXIF data of my pictures.

Like I said - one solution, convenience.

He's talking about "in Thailand" (where the carriers allow it) and he's talking if the phone has the capability (which it does).

My whole point to LY is simply that he has had a chance to improve his knowledge base and increase his worth to his employer, seeing as how that's where things are going.

I know enough about the iPhone to be useful to my employer, thanks, LOL
Like I said, I'm not on the floor sporting the things to customers or crackin' into them, activating them, pretty much nothing unless there's a problem, which you probably can tell us is very unlikely.

Providers charge for using them (Android AND iPhones) as a hotspot, unless of course you've jailbroken them or rooted them.

This may not be the case with an unlocked AT&T iPhone 4s, but that's outside my scope of "give a shit".

My iPhone 4 (previously iPhone 3GS) that I was using in Thailand under TRUEmove, allowed me to use the hotspot feature without any extra costs or fees, even as a prepaid SIM - so your statement that *all* providers charge is, again, patently incorrect.

These particular iPhones were purchased directly from TRUE, initially, though without a plan. There is no difference between unlocked iPhones, no matter who you purchase them from (except their model number)... so if they are from AT&T or not doesn't matter (plus, at the time, the USA did not sell unlocked iPhones)

Mind you, this was part of TRUE's iPhone data plan (599baht/mo, unlimited everything, at the time), so maybe Android phones get charged for hotspot features.

ok, my fault, I should have said ALL providers in North America, but you will probably find one that doesn't, can't you ?

Maybe Cricket or some other generic one that just piggy-backs on a real provider's carrier waves.

You can't beat TrueMove's iPhone deal, I think the cheapest in North America is about $55/month.

Yeah, NA sucks - albeit you can sign up with WalMart's StraightTalk, for $45 flat fee, you get : unlimited talk, unlimited SMS, unlimited data.

Although, no hotspot, and no mms. Really, not an issue with iMessage.

It's on top of AT&T's network, so it has to be an AT&T phone, or unlocked phone - and it really works well. True unlimited. Bought one and played Pandora 24/7. 11GB in 30 days. No problems.

But you are right, far better deals, and easier to get, in Thailand. US carriers are simply clueless considering the market of travelers. Really stupid, but then again, no surprise.

"US carriers are simply clueless"

Yeah, all the phone locking and bullshit really ticks me off, but we are sadly stuck with it since not many here know about how it COULD be, so they aren't fighting for it to be that way.
