You're in luck, Jademan - the Verizon iPhone 5 has a GSM slot on the right side (it's the part with the small hole) that is unlocked. In other words, it can accept any compatible nano-SIM from Thai providers.

Please note - you will need a NANO-SIM, or have a regular SIM cut to size to fit. Most Thai providers should now be able to provide you with a nano-SIM, but in case you end up with a regular SIM, send me a PM, as I have an associate on the ground who can help you with a SIM cutter.

Depending on how long and where you plan on staying, I would suggest getting a TRUE SIM card. They have very comprehensive coverage and they have 'unlimited' plans for around 700 baht (for 30 days).

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks DD. I'll give it TRUE a try.

Do you know if it is possible to turn on the locator map and see it in my laptop within Thailand to find my iPhone if it gets misplaced (or the TGF has it) ?

"Find my iPhone" (that's the name of this feature) works moderately well in Thailand. Accuracy is often quite good, albeit not always 100% (it depends on location and coverage maps).

Just make sure you have an iCloud account setup, and that you turn on Find my iPhone.

It's accuracy is questionable. Well, it'll tell you at least within 50m (sometimes about 10m if you're lucky) or so from where it is.

Which is pretty good accuracy for Thailand, if you consider what you are dealing with.

As long as you have a decent real GPS signal (which you get after about 5-6 minutes of active GPS), your accuracy will be within 10 meters. A-GPS is within 10m-50m.

If you use it while driving on the streets and freeway, your accuracy is within meters.

I was just told by Verizon that they must "deactivate" my iPhone 5 before I take it to Thailand and install a SIM, or it will not work in Thailand. Not only does this sound ridiculous, but it begs the question: What happens when I arrive back in America with my phone deactivated at the airport? Why, just call Verizon, of course, and they will reactivate my phone which does NOT WORK because it is deactivated! Is this all a bunch of s**t, or do I really have to do this? Daffy? Anyone?
