Since my wife moved here we have been using Vonage for our calls to Thailand. Included was a U.S. domestic phone numbers with unlimited local and long distance calls to any number in the U.S. and Canada for$24.99. For an additional $10 you would get unlimited calls to Thailand included with the Call Asia plan. Now Vonage is promoting "International calls free like local calls" to 60 countries. Included in the list is Thailand for the low monthly price of $24.99. If you pay for one year in advance there is a 20% discount. With junk fees (911, federal taxes...etc) the price is $323 and change. My wife will call friends/family for 3k-4k minutes a month easy which makes this a no brainer. It is also our domestic home phone as I've long since cancelled Ma Bell.
One feature we use a LOT with Vonage is forwarding our phone to our Thai number. Someone calls the Vonage number and it instantly forwards to Thailand and rings me while on vacation. It certainly is a lot easier than giving someone a 1-800 number and a 16 digit pin to reach me. The call quality is superb with Vonage imho and I'm a very satisfied customer.
I was in Cambodia for some R&R and the wife had stayed in Isarn with the family. I stopped at an Internet cafe to call her in Thailand and the guy gave me an insane amount like $1.25 per minute to make the call. Somone in the cafe shouted just sign up for skype and call Thailand as it is much cheaper. Immediately the Internet shop owner cut his price in half. Too late. I signed up with skype and called the wife for something like twenty cents per minute. I then noticed I could call the USA for.02 per minute to my Vonage number and be forwarded on to Thailand. Pretty funny that I was in Cambodia calling the U.S. and then getting forward back to Thailand.
*I do not work for Vonage but I am very happy with their service. There is a referal program and I'm sure there are other members on here who would like the referal. It gets the new user two free months and the person who refers you two free months.
