While you guys may know the secret that I am a Massage Slave, the normal world knows me as "Book Man"... I am always carrying a book to read, and the librarians know me by name. So, the idea of being on a plane not once, but TWICE for more than 20 hours (and I am unable to sleep in planes), makes me need at least 20 books. I can't carry 20 books while flying, so I am going to get an e-reader. Would anyone be knowledgeable about e-readers? I thought I could check emails and browse the web (once off the plane, of course), but it turns out I am wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

Simple, get an iPad, that's my e-reader of choice. Used it on my recent trip to the states.

Ipads aren't that great for reading books, plus they are very pricey, stick with the kindle...

I read books on my iPad, it's not quite as good as a kindle for that purpose since it's not specifically designed for it, but can do so many other things as well. I recommend an iPad, my eyes don't burn like reading web pages on a laptop.

Save the effort - get yourself a nook Simple Touch (Barnes & Noble) instead. It's a paperback sized, touch based, e-ink reader.

Note, just like with a book, you will need a reading light - e-ink displays are not backlit.

The advantage of the nook reader (aside from being $99, out the door) is that it accepts a lot of other formats - so if you have your books in different formats (say, PDF, ePub or Kindle formats) you can easily transfer them to the one nook reader. You can easily convert between formats using a utility program called "Calibre" and a handful of handy plugins on your computer/laptop.

There is no need to repurchase books.

My wife owns a Kindle and loves it. Easy to carry, read and long battery life.
