The telco sector in Thailand is in a complete regulatory mess, with mostly willing but crippled operators, two nearly dead state companies (TOT and CAT) obstructing the way to progress, and a young and inefficient NBTC. Given the time it took to get 3G deployed in Thailand (well, kind of, as operators are actually using part of their 2G spectrum, and 2.1GHz 3G spectrum has yet to be auctioned of - but at least it's working), I wouldn't hold my breath for a full deployment of LTE anytime soon. Bangkokians however can expect LTE, from various operators, experimentally of course but durably and on increasingly wider area of coverage. Call it 4G by stealth. That's the way things went forward with 3G As for AIS, given that its current concession is expiring relatively shortly, it will be interesting to see what happens... Until that is resolved, few will invest in it.

Yeah, seems that's the way to do it. Bummer that things are that messed up, and no one dares speak up (like, point out, "Cambodia has better network than Thailand!")

Some people do, actually. Admittedly with limited results, but with a refreshing stubbornness. You may want to check http://www.telecomasia.net/ for example, where among the usual corporate communication pieces you may find some interesting analysis items.
