Ok, I made the extremely stupid decision to buy an Acer laptop with an extremely good spec and its only 6 mths old and a pile of crap, it hangs and the egg timer thing (the circle version) seems to be constantly doing something.

Anyway, Acer just keep reinstalling it and couldn't give a shit as it takes them 2 weeks every time so its going off the balcony tonight !

I need the help of our techy brethren, Dr Love and others please.

Basically I use my laptop for 2 things, internet browsing and downloading bit torrents.

I don;t need a laptop for that.

I have an ipad, it won't do bittorrent, and even if it did iTunes would no doubt cause me more hassles with it.

I can download bittorrents on my Samsung phone..great.

So was thinking of buying a Samsung tablet to replace my laptop.

I watch all my torrents on my TV through my AC Ryan Playon HD2 Media Player which is connected to my wireless router. It has USB ports on it also.

My problem:
How do I transfer the downloaded files from my Samsung Tablet to my Media Player (transfer/copy to, not stream to)
over my wifi network or via the USB ?

It doesn't seem possible unless you put a computer between them and then use the computer to move the files from one device to the other.

Surely I can do this without the PC ?

If I can it solves all my problems.

Do I need an app to do it ? Is there another way ?

Thanks guys.

Only thinking here. I have a samsung tablet, marvelous thing. I store movies on the 32 Gig sd card, use an adaptor that is a samsung slot on one end and a USB on the other to transfer stuff to a computer or flash drive. I take it your Playon has a USB. see where I am going with this?

I hear your thinking Edge and its good, (so I connect the thumbdrive to the USB on my media player) but this method only allows me to browse through to the USB device using my Media Player, there's no way that my media player lets me instruct a copy or move file from the thumbdrive onto the media player. I want to store the stuff on my media player for future viewing.

I just want to do a straight 'drag and drop' type motion from Samsung (tab or phone) to the Media Player, whilst the Samsung is either plugged into the Media Player via a USB cable, or across the wifi.

You are trying to complicate your problem too much. As you say, the only thing you do is grab torrents, and browse the internet.

Ask yourself why you need the latest technology to do this? You don't. All you need is a good second hand old laptop that connects to the internet, and has a USB 2.0 connection, to download torrents on.

You can pick up real good second hand older laptops at PanTip Plaza for under $100 that will do exactly what you want. Use the operating system from the Acer, then shitcan it. Connect the laptop to a USB hard drive to download onto, and all your problems are solved. The shop you buy from might even trade you straight across for the Acer, and put the Windows operating system on the older one for free. You don't want DOS left on it, or a version of linux.

The speed of your computer has no noticable relation to how fast you can download, and transfer those downloads onto a USB hard drive connected to an old laptop, that has nothing else loaded on it, and that all you use it for is grabbing torrents.

Or, you can subscribe to some cloud storage, and transfer through that. Some you can even stream from.

Buy any Samsung tablet and a USB adapter (I believe the latest Samsung Tab 2 10.1 has a native USB host port) and transfer straight to your media player.

Another way is to use a FTP app on your tablet and transfer to the IP of your media player. This is probably the fastest way. I use this method to transfer files from my PC to my Xbox HDD.
