Yes but I bet you don't fall for the "not want to do special but have to because I need money for my family" pitch. This is the oldest most successful bait used on lonely older farangs. Now if the girl stops working the bar or offering specials at the massage shop all good and well and it's true there are lots of happy long term relationships which have sprung from this arrangment. You only have to visit Udon to see whole housing estates where older farangs have happily settled down with their Thai girlfriends/wives. However young Jum from what you've mentioned ie having not one but two sponsors while continueing to provide extra's is not one of them. Somkid I feel my post may have contributed to your meltdown so I need to put my recent experience with Jum in some perspective. Although I intend to see a lot more of her I have only met her once and Detectivethai knows her a lot better than I do. All I can say is that I found her to be sincere honest and open about what was going on in her life and do not believe she is the wily operator or hustler you think she is.
This older American she mentioned is somebody she met recently who wants to look after her. She has accepted his generosity and why not who wouldn't. As to whether she promised him that she would stop the extra's I cannot say for certain but probably he hopes she would. I do not believe she led him on more like he probably felt sorry for her after hearing about her daughter and knowing she cannot make ends meet without the extras.
I have no doubt he is infatuated with her, question is how does she feel about him. If she were in her thirties up it's possible she could have romantic feelings for him but she is 22 and the age difference is too great.. If he wants to believe she fancies him that is not her problem unless she gave him that impression and while I'm not sure I don't believe she did.
No doubt in time his infatuation will subside, he will realize his "love' is not being reciprocated and the sponsorship will come to an end. That's when unless he's replaced by another sponsor she as Detectivethai suggested will probably sell the trinkets and life will again be something of a struggle.
We talked about whether she ever considered the more mainstream P4P channels and she said she had. Some of her friends work the baths but she says she could not have sex with everybody who paid for her services. When you visualize some 20 stone drunk slob grinding away on top of her slim body one can understand and unfortunately she doesn't have the confidence or experience to work the freelance bars and clubs where she would have more control.

As to my own experience while I had a good time I did as I said feel she was not totally comfortable with what was happening. I hope this changes as we get to know each other better. That said I won't be buying any I Pads. Cheers

You could meet a lot worse operator than Jum in Bangkok. I think she is a nice and pleasant kid just doing what she chooses to do to survive in a country where there is no government welfare net, to help very much. I like her.

Your post is a kind hearted and philosophical observation of life for these girls but do they really have choices as you suggest? If they have a child to support particularly of school going age can the wages from a minimum wage job cover expenses. To even get some of these jobs believe it or not requires a high school level of education which a lot including Jum don’t have.

government provides free part time education for the HS cert. just one morning a week.
My female friend has a college degree via this system and earns 15k per month as a design engineer. Massage / bar girls can make 2,3,4,5 times that with no education. I believe it is a choice.

As in any country irrespective of background if somebody has ambition and capability they can educate themselves find a regular job advance by working hard or even start their own business and thrive. However these are the exceptions. Most people especially in developing countries like Thailand if you are born poor you most likely will stay poor. You are right of course there is always the choice, should I sell sex or not and it is taking the easy way out to take the money when offered but the alternative is not even 15000 a month more like something between 4000 and 9000 out of which comes rent food support for back home etc etc.

It's a choice. 100% plain and simple. It is a choice the vast majority of Thai women don't make. Truth be told it is the easy way out.
I know scads of Thai women whose families are poor, but they still managed to get a degree, learn English, and are now making a living wage (30k up). I know a few who have even gone on to get MBAs and now make 100k baht a month plus. I know gals who were not academically inclined that have started a business and make good money. A successful food cart can make big money if you are selling a quality product.

Its is obvious that the majority of people in Thailand choose not to sell sex for a career / income, as most believe in Karma. Thankfully, most Thais are hardworking and choose to work for minimal income rather than work in the sex industry. I see hundreds of pretty girls working in shops, market stalls and even on building sites, I think they would like an easier life too but they choose not to work in the sex industry for their own reasons. If everyone took the route of sex workers, the countries whole structure would crumble. I accept that there is always a choice for them as there is for me.
