Actually,it is a well accepted principle of economic competition that the best place to site any business is close to similar businesses.
The rational is that more potential customers, seeking a certain kind of business, will be drawn to a location where there are many businesses of that kind,than will be drawn to a location where there is only one or two businesses of that kind.
Not every customer`s purchasing decision will be determined by price,or the availability of a particular service,or even the quality of the services on offer.
Many will be too lazy to investigate all the businesses,and will make their purchase at the one most conveniently located to their direction of approach.
Others will make their choice based solely on the outside appearance of the business and,of course,different appearances will appeal to different people.
No doubt regular customers will,over time, settle on a particular business which best suits their needs,but in a situation where there is a considerable churning of customers, which will be the case where most are tourists,all but the worst businesses will prosper although,naturally,some will do better than others.

You've also got to consider those people that open a business in Thailand solely for the purpose of gaining a long term visa, and work permit. Not always are they smart businessmen doing what they know. Sometimes there is only one real reason, and it doesn't have anything to do with making money....lolol.
As far as the notion of tourist convenience, and the reputations established with the tourists by the upstairs clubs in Patpong from a few years back, there is no way I would recommend anyone locate upstairs in Bangkok.
You've got no storefront other than a doorway, and the stories that still circulate about the exit fees charged by the upstairs clubs in Patpong, make first time tourist very leary about going into any establishment located upstairs anywhere in Bangkok.

Review.
OK so I was the 2pm booking with Lily yesterday.
I arrived 10 minutes early after having walked around Sukhumvit first and was very hot. The girls saw this and immediately offered me some cold bottled water, which I was very grateful for. hhhmmmm I am getting more and more skeptical now. Lily would have been a choice of mine should I chose to go back to EZ Massage but it looks as she is lazy.
