Looking for information on the best coverage and cost for health insurance in Thailand. Practical advice is also welcome such as should you opt only for emergency or high end medical coverage since doctor visits are cheap? What are the major companies and how much do you pay for premiums and deductibles. Please include dental coverage as well. Thanks.

OA:

I use BUPA (Blue Cross). They seem reasonable enough at a cost of about 25,000 baht per year for me and daughter. Coverage varies with the type plan you choose.

Try the yellow pages for the office nearest you.

By the way, are you here or still there?

I use a company called Good Health. I have been pleased with them and they have a wide variety of options. Their web site is http://www.goodhealth.co.uk

BUPA stinks - you pay extra for the brand name !

Good Health is excellent - while working as a teacher, my school paid for my health insurance via GH. The one time I got ill, stuck down by food poisoning, GH were fast, efficient and spoke great English. Good for peace of mind !

BUPA does suck, a doctor in a hospital in BKK told me that...and it should be known, as I found out the hard way (I know, I shoulda read the fine print), they have the "bible belt clause" of not covering any STDs, which I think is absurd.

and yeah, "Good Health" is way better, but waaaaay too expensive for my blood: almost 4,000 baht per month premiums for the most basic coverage, and that doesn't even include evacuation...BUPA was only 13,000 baht a *year* for in-patient coverage, and that included evacuation from Cambodia and Laos (to Thailand).

anyone know of any alternatives between those two extremes? preferably Thailand-based...
