I was wondering if anyone knew of the prospects of finding work as a Lotus Notes/Domino developer. (It's sort of a specialty software).

There's zero prospects for that in the US, so I'd doubt that anyone in their right mind would be using it anywhere else... Yeah, good point.

Actually, there is a lot of work for that in the US. For one thing, we have half of India over here programming in Lotus Notes.

SSam, 1. Most of the Lotus Notes work I get offered (globally) is for conversions to Microsoft, I use my Indian developers to do that. 2. Most of the IT work that my Thailand partner and I generate in LOS is at local rates (about 50 - 70k bT) per month, hardly enough to justify a work permit. Hence we use Thais and resident Indians to do our work. 3. The exception is high-end Integration Architecture and Design using one of the SOA based Middleware packages, for this one can expect about 240,000 bT a month or about half of what you can earn in the US or the EU (I use my Singapore or Indian based consultants for this)...

Thanks for the information. It very valuable to get background info like this. I would appreciate it very much if I could get your opinion on something. I have been self taught in Lotus Notes/Domino for 10 years. It is sort of a Mickey Mouse software, but was good for entry into IT at the time. In the present market, would it be valuable to get a Master's Degree in IT from AIT? Thanks again.

The guys who are making good money in IT in Thailand are the guys who arrange contracts in their home countries i.e. USA and Europe then work from their offices in Thailand. A few use local talent to do the work while they provide project management and customer interfacing. This is called having your cake and eating IT.

Thanks again. I don't have to work anymore, and wanted to go back to school to study some subjects I enjoy and get an advanced degree. I like to analyze and think creatively. Being completely unfamiliar with IT management, does it involve any of the three above aspects? Somehow I always picture managers as being a little like that guy in Dilbert.

I doubt you will like being in management, since you deal a lot with other people's personal and professional problems. If you don't have to work, it is probably not something you would enjoy, especially if you have not done it before.
