Yeah, I usually get the public bus from the Northern terminal. I'd far rather put up with a bit of routine hassle at the border than get stuck in a bloody mini-bus for hours on end. The BKK traffic can be a real pain on the way back, tho', so I really ought to try the train sometime.

A painless way to do this run is to bring a little chum along from BKK, stay over in Aranya & do the border crossing in the morning (this way, you don't need to get up early & the traffic won't be so bad when you return to BKK). For those of us who need to find excuses for our LTs, visa runs have their uses. Sometimes, I even look forward to them.

In future, the deep-discounted airfares to Malaysia Smeg mentions will probably be the best way to go for same-day runs. I suspect I'll only use these if time is precious.

The guy who started this thread was looking to depart from Pattaya, but if you start from BKK and time is of the essence:

BKK-Udon-BKK r/t is only 3430 baht on Thai Airways. Maximum of 200 baht r/t for the bus up to Nong Khai and back (takes about an hour or so each way). And ~35 baht each way from the NK bus station to the Friendship bridge and back in a tuk-tuk.

The 06.50 flight out of Bangkok gets you to Udon in time for the national anthem at 8 AM. You can easily get back to Udon in time to get the 14.40 flight back to BKK. In fact, you'll probably spend a couple of hours waiting around in the World's Dullest Airport at UTH.

Figure in your taxi to BKK and back home and you can do this for maybe 4200 baht. Visa for Laos is only US$30 or about 1200 baht and nuisance fees of maybe 100 more to exit both countries and pay the shuttle bus to cross the bridge twice.

So you can do it for under 5500 baht and not hassle with Cambo at all, save time and frustration. If you live in BKK you can do the whole thing and be home in less than 12 hours.

V-J for that price and the amount of time involved, I think Singapore may be a more pleasant experience.

There are flights that cost RT just over 5,000 Baht. The whole thing can be done in about 10 hours -including taxi time to the airport. You do not even need to enter Singapore -just wait at the terminal for the plane to make its turn around, and board it back.

That's another good option and might seem even better if the price somes down more. But I'd go nuts sitting in Changgi waiting for the plane. Can you get a blowjob in the transit lounge there?

At least my way you get to see a few things and get some fresh air.

Now you say "You do not even need to enter Singapore" -- what do you mean? I presume this means "no need to leave the airport", yes? I think you do still have to at least get stamped into Singapore.

The reason I ask is that I've heard (albeit non-authoritatively) that Thailand doesn't officially consider you gone until you have been stamped into another country, for whatever reason.

You can just be for about 2 hours in the transit area of the airport. Changi is pleasant enough for a couple of hours.

Cheapest and a fast way to do it is with Finnair, Swiss and SAS. Cheaper than with Thai, SQ. CX is also cheaper than SQ and Thai, but it would would mean staying overnight, as the direct flights cross each other on route.

Stamp from another country? Not sure why? But I do not believe so. As you could go back to your country and come back and would not have got a stamp if your own coutry is in the European Union. I believe also the USA does not stamp its own citizens and residents. The same may be true of other countries. Would ths mean that if I go to the UK from BKK and come back 3 months later Thailand considers that I never left the coutry because I do not have stamps to show I was in England?

Anyway, I know people who have done the Changi thing without problems.

There are the occasional stories of those who make an ass of themselves at border crossings, and having been stamped out Thailand and then after being refused entry to the next country have much trouble re-entering Thailand for the reason I cited.

For air travelers who behave themselves, I think the "no next stamp" becomes a technicality that is readily overlooked.

At one time Aeroflot also had a deep discount on their BKK-Singapor run and you could get back the same day. But then the prices went up and I think that segment has now been discontinued.

VJ, I don't really understand the reason behind your post.

4,200 baht for a visa run you can do in less than 12 hours.

I'll do mine in a little over 12 hours (13 hours to be precise) and costs me less than 1,300 baht (incl. transport, visa fees, stamp fee).

It's for people who don't want to rely overmuch on ground transport and/or to go to Cambodia.
