Obviously, my thai family keep the wheels turning-( I have always implied that "we")
No I dont take the truck into nearby cambodia- I dont negotiate purchases or sales of anything in letter of law-
OR IF FARMERS HIRE MACHINERY - THE WIFE IS APPROACHED
(But she is earning the money for our purposes)
And usually the uncle drives it or son- so calling me a bullshit artist just sounds like bitter grapes to me-
I am a silent partner - I have never said otherwise-
But I do have imput on matters that loom larger
But example- ok we buy 50 times 90 kilo grade 2 rice at x amount that my wifes son and uncle deem good value-
The resale is done at best price Thai side again on advice-
Money goes after wages and costs into wifes account-
Some into storage bank-
Tractor Rental is common place - son drives -
This is not rocket science-
Same for cattle that are getting good sale prices-
Better yeilds with good plowing and additional water needs - fertilizer- these people are great farmers and I do reap from the profits-
As for my wife dumping me - she isnt going to buy into that- she knows the score-
I have been caught before-
Its a case of her wanting me to change or at least not get caught-
There is a committment on her part obviously as I increase dramatically the families lot-
I have said this in other posts-
Sure the land is hers the house is on her land - the machinery mine - one isnt even paid off yet-
The shop- half the cattle mine-
At 37 (and thai woman think they are old at 28) she isnt going to jump off the gravy train-
Finanicial stuff aside she has over the years been a good wife and I think deep down I would make improvements for her-
But we enjoy farming success-
Those of you on this board will know in some instances the joy Thai farmers get out of aspects of farming at times-
Be in a bumper crop or good rains-
Life is boring here- but my time is almost up-
And sure buying more machinery and controlling the farm here and one day staying may all back fire-
But lifes a gamble-
I gamble-
I like her family - they are simple - good people-
We all have to have a place one day to go to-
Or the other cynical people who pretend to know better-
Stating simple facts like -
I cant buy rice etc is not altering my story here one bit-
We - "means thai partner" same as house and everything else-
My wife isnt one in a million - but I have had 2000-
I trust her for sound reasons-
she makes money keeps good records-
And shows me the bank account-
She took 40,000 out of it this morning as Tomorrow I turn 50-
And is at Tesco lotus now in a nearby town buying stuff for party-
You know any of us here can loose the lot-
I have whats called a back up plan -
Thats superannution and personal account-
The whole message on this thread was making thais independent and also your wife money- she runs a business and is prinicple of farm-
End of day having lifestock and baht coming in makes sense-
More than it just going out-
My brother spent 20 million here in 4 years and is back in Australia with his model young bitch wife-
I have been careful-
I have watched on every turn to see what my imput yeilds-
I guess if any thats my message-
Never mind these guys- half of them dont have a clue what goes down in the farming sector-
But really,if you consider it two things-
You need land that is good with water supplies- and machinery and a solid grounded Thai family who natural aspire to oppurtunity-
People you can trust-
But one emerging trend that is definiately worth exploring if your near cambodia is buying rice there and sellng back here- *(thailand)
Her borders are lax and she is allowed to send in a truck twice weekly - and make two purchases- after all considerations we net about 5000 baht on the sale-
Thats just 10,000 baht a week-
But I never said life was easy here-(i live in Australia on 85K)
But its called building your options-
The trick is to make money on a range of things-
Dont do as my brother did or many "would be seers" here and come here and spend and loose you money-
For me this is my pandora option-
But where there is an option where there is a "real alternative" there will always be a bitch or two on a forum saying otherwise
No matter where or what you decide- just make sure you do your home work first

So to recapp you can farm and make alot of decesions - in law and letter it will be your wifes name- but thats of no consequence if she knows the routine well

Im not gonna get involved except to say I would not
invest 1 baht in thailand but good luck to anyone who is brave enough to give it a go.
Many like to knock DG but at least he is honest, down to earth and he is having a go at something.
As for f***in up if you are discrete its not a problem, rub it in her nose and the ducks will come a calling

Yea cheapcharlie good luck to Dirty he works hard and earns good money so it's his choice to do as he feels, just like the rest of us.
Some members may choose to stay single and invest in stocks & shares and wait decades for a nest egg only to die of a stroke or heart attack and never get to really enjoy there wealth, up 2 them.
DG does give to much info some times but that's DG
I've met the MAD Bugger and sure we agree to disagree a lot but at the end of the day DG lives and breaths Thailand and has more mileage than most, after all it's a forum and some take all that's written to seriously!

DG, first happy birthday.
Next, you seem to still be infering that foreigners can farm, and trade rice. That simply is not the case at all. You do not buy rice in Cambodia, your wifes family does, so don't infer that it is "we", you don't buy it.
There is not any foreigner that can trade rice if they live near the border because they can not do it. It is not possible for a foreigner to do as you infer.
You use the "we" when it is "them" that does all the work, and you even say so, then you are taking the credit for their hard work. That is sad.
You got hooked up with a wife's family that was already doing it all. You try to make it sound like any foreigner could do this, all they have to do is live by the border, and that is not true at all. That is what I call BS on.

Your not the first and won't be the last to fall in lust and than marry miss Thailand, than have all your savings disappear into a " business" with a Thai
Once any money comes in you won't get a cracker.
But you will disagree and and one day say to your self if I only had of listened to the free advice.
When all your money has gone you'll have to go back to Australia and start again 
There's so many stories of guys like your self, going to Thailand after a divorce than getting treated like a King and thinking this ones different than you spill your guts to the new TG I have money etc etc
Once you've qualified your self 9 times out of 10 the TG will bleed you DRY.
Do a test tell your girl your moneys gone see what happens.
