Regarding retirement to Malaysia, please check the following websites for more info :-

http://www.mm2h.gov.my/

Malaysia My Second Home Programme is promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow foreigners who fulfill certain criteria, to stay in Malaysia for as long as possible on a multiple-entry social visit pass.

The Social Visit Pass is initially for a period of ten (10) years, and is renewable.

ELIGIBILITY
It is open to citizens of all countries recognised by Malaysia regardless of race, religion, gender or age. Applicants are allowed to bring their spouses and unmarried children below the age of 18 as dependants.

WHAT IS THIS "MALAYSIA MY SECOND HOME" (MM2H) PROGRAM?
Malaysia My Second Home program is open to all foreign citizens wishing to retire or reside in Malaysia on a long term basis. It is fully endorsed by the Government of Malaysia and your immediate family (spouse and children) can also participate in the program. Here are some of the key benefits of the program:

You will get a 10-year Visit Pass and Multiple-Entry Visa (renewable every ten years) which will eventually give you a lifetime easy access to the country (perpetual visa).

You can import your car or purchase a new car, tax-free and enjoy other tax incentives.

You can invest and own businesses in Malaysia. This is like owning a second passport, or a second citizenship in Malaysia.

You can enjoy a luxury lifestyle at a fraction of the costs. It is the cheapest and very affordable place to retire early.

The best thing is that you still retain your citizenship and all its privileges in your own country. You can always go back if you miss having to wear 5 layers of clothing and thread through a thick snow at some 20 degrees below zero just to get your mail from your mailbox, or miss pushing your car to the side of the road during heavy snow storm due to frozen fuel line. But for us, if we want to experience cool air, we would just take a one-hour drive to Genting Highland, which is located few thousand meters above sea level, or hike up to Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in South East Asia.

Latest Announcement !!!

1) The Principal and his or her dependants may now apply for MM2H ID card. Kindly contact us for required procedure & documents.

2). Qualified MM2H participants aged 50 and above with specialized skills and expertise that are required in the critical sectors of the economy, are allowed to work not more than 20 hours per week.

The approval to work part-time is subject to the following conditions:
a) the application is approved by the MM2H Special Committee;
b) the work contract needs to state that the MM2H participant is working part time and to attach the work schedule; and
c) total number of hours of week does not exceed 20 hours.

3) MM2H participants are allowed to invest and actively participate in business, subject to existing Government policies, regulations and guidelines which are in force for the relevant sectors.

4) Foreign spouses of Malaysian nationals are eligible to apply for MM2H, subject to the terms and conditions of the MM2H program. Alternatively, they have the option to apply for the Spouse Program.

5) The ten-year Social Visit Pass is extended to all Silver Hair and MM2H participants who were previously approved under the five-year Social Visit Pass, subject to the validity of their passports.

6) Employment Pass holders who wish to participate in the MM2H program are exempted from the “cooling off period” on the condition that their application to participate in MM2H program is submitted 3 months before the expiry of the Employment Pass.

7) Age limit of unmarried dependent children is raised from 18 years to 21 years. A declaration stating that the child is unmarried and all expenses during the stay in Malaysia will be borne by the principal participant of the MM2H program is required.

8) ‘Dependants’ include unmarried children aged 21 years and below, step-children, disabled children and parents.

WHY MALAYSIA IS THE BEST PLACE TO RETIRE?
Malaysia, situated in the heart of Asia, has one of the highest standards of living, yet maintains cheap cost of living. As an example, a burger from a well-known fast food restaurant in the UK costs around £5.00, which translates to about RM35.00 (conversion rate £1.00=RM7.00), where the same burger in Malaysia would cost you only RM7.00! It is even cheaper if you try local Malaysian cuisine.
The table below gives some more indications on the living expenses in Malaysia.

Expenses Cost (RM) Cost (USD) *
Meal for a day RM20.00 USD5.20
A 2-bedroom apartment RM100,000 USD26,300
A bungalow with a 6000sqft land RM500,000 USD131,578
A desktop computer RM1,000 USD263
A visit to the doctor for flu (with medication) RM30 USD7.90

* Based on conversion rate of RM3.8=USD1.00

Malaysia also has world-class highways that connect all the States in Peninsula Malaysia, modern urban transportation systems that make traveling to the city a breeze, and has among the best medical facilities in Asia. Here are a few other reasons why Malaysia is the best place to retire:

blessed with warm moderate weather all year round.

superb healthcare facilities and highly-skilled medical practitioners. Yet medical expenses and insurance can be very cheap and affordable compare to other countries.

great education system. It also has many international schools to cater for expats children, and numerous colleges with affiliation with well-known overseas universities.

big shopping centers that have international brand names as their tenants, as well as street malls that carry cheap local products.

for golf enthusiasts, Malaysia has many championship-level golf courses, and very competitive golf membership rates.

a majority of the people understand and speak English.

due to its location at the center of South East Asia, air traveling to neighboring countries only takes a short time.

lots of interesting places to visit, mountains to climb, caves to explore

a large variety of food, cooked in a lot of different styles that have been influenced by the various cultures that exist in the country (Malay's satay, Indian fish curry, Chinese's Dim Sum, Tomyam from Thailand, etc). In fact, most types of food in the region are available in Malaysia, and they are cheap too!

low crime rate, and highly efficient Royal Malaysian Police

cheap insurance rate as the people are not as litigious as in the West

very friendly people,

and the list goes on and on...

Many people are here for its golf courses, property investment, shopping centers, and food. Here, your money goes a long, long way! In fact, people from Singapore came in droves to Malaysia to do their weekly groceries shopping. And many people who have made the smart choice of retiring in Malaysia can afford full-time housekeepers, gardeners, and cooks!

I am not sure how the Malaysian rates compare to that from Thailand

One thing for sure.... if you want to have fun, fun, fun and sex, sex, sex Thailand beats Malaysia hands down as Malaysian is a Muslim country and there are a lot of restrictions on public sex ( eg massage parlours, A Go Go bars, ladyboys and gays, etc, etc,... )

Check out the rates on Thailand by yourself or get the advice from others

... as PL69 says, Thailand's only claim to exceptionalism is that it is the whore house to the world... that's about it.

... if your retirement will be a different slut du jour night after night after night, KL will take work.

... but... in KL, I found all the f*** queens I needed... I am happy to keep a stable of prefered pleasure consultants on a rotation, which recruitment was easy enough.

... and, BKK is an easy and inexpensive flight... I wouldn't let pussy drive the decision about if I retire in Malaysia, or Thailand (specifically, BKK v. KL)... and while Malaysia is majority Muslim, that doesn't mean Malays won't fandango naked in the moonlight with a wildly bucking tart strapped like a gas mask to their face, heels hooked behind their necks... anyone who has lived in Muslim countries knows that hypocrisy is not exclusively the domain of devil Infidels.

... I imagine that last statement will somehow draw on this forum no wild-eyed maniacal shrieks for my battered, bloodied head on a pike poll... (Allah willing)... being that the BTF is maybe one of the very few remaining safe bastions for higher intellectual discourse about the world's great religions.

... well... I know that's why I signed up... that, and DG's 'Go ahead piss in my mouth baby' thread... (one of the great theological thinkers of our day, gentlemen).

Good luck but when I retire I want to live somewhere
where im not confronted daily with religious
clown head gear. No doubt they like pussy but ive heard are disaproving of alcohol and I doubt there are any medicinal mariuana dispenceries for my back ache. So much too conservative for my liking unless im wrong but ill stick to the whorehouse if you dont mind.

Golf sounds great though.

... another suggestion is to live whereever you plan to retire, in a place proximate to where you think you'd like to live, for at least a year before buying a home.

=====================================

Is the USD26,300 for a year's rental, or, what?

US $ 26,300 is the cost to purchase a 2-bedrooms apartment in Malaysia.... cheap, ain't it ?

The cost of living in Malaysia (at least in Kuala Lumpur) is almost comparable to Bangkok, though I was say, it is slightly higher in some aspects, perhaps 10-15%. As for P4P, BKK beats KL, but then again, there are the Vietnamese, Filipinas, Russians, PRC and some Thais. Definitely, more variety than BKK.
