I took the Cambodia Visa Run two Sundays ago Through the Visa Run guys. Nice operation. 11 people (9 making the run, a driver and Hostess) left in a comfortable Van. Lunch was served. We made the complete turn aound at the border is less than an hour. We were out of the van by 6:30 that night. All told 8.5 hours. I thought it was worth the 2000 Bhat. No hassles and they took care of everything.

My 1st Visa run. BKK to Cambodia.

Thanks Dr Love for this website.

http://www.thaivisarun.com

BTS to Ekkamai, across the road from the bus terminal on the odd street number side of Sukhumvit Rd at the corner of soi 63.

Walked into the little coffee shop area in front of the Honda dealership and was met by visa staff at 9.20am. Paperwork was handed to me, partly filled out by them and I sat down and completed the rest. I was joined by 6 other men and 1 woman. All paperwork completed, paid 2000b handed them the passports and we ventured off at 9.50am in a modern 13 seat mini bus. Given a bottle of water and stopped 2 hrs later at a large gas/restaurant place and was given a large serving of American fried rice in a polystyrene container (individual servings) with small salad. Stopped for 10 mins or so at garage and reached the border of Pong Nam Ron (Thai side) and Daung (Cambodian side) at 1.30pm. Do not get Pong Nam Ron confused with the one between Chiang Mai and Rai, same names but different places.

Went through Thai checkpoint and walked over bridge into Cambodia and our staff took care of our visa's etc. Waited under shelter for about 15 mins, back across the bridge and through Thai Imm and then back on bus. Left about 2.05pm. Stopped about 2 hrs later at another gas/restaurant for 15 mins and arrived Ekkamai around 6pm.

No hassles from the kids at the border, it is a quiet little village area and if I do not hear of any other good visa runs, I will be using them again.

Highly recommended.

Barrafish.

For those who don't mind a bit of adventure......

I went to Chiang Rai and then on to Mae Sai.....walked across to Burma and the total cost for the visa was only 250 baht on the Burma side and no big queues.

A good weekend alternative for those with time.

WARNING ON OVERSTAY IN LOS.

I am not shouting, just want to get your attention. Now read this.

Today I did the usual visa run with Jack Golf BKK to Ban Laem (Cambodian border). Prior to arriving at Ban Laem, I was talking with a Canadian bloke who said that he did a visa run last month on a bus out of Phuket.

On the way Police stopped the bus and removed the overstayers and transported them to BKK where they would be processed and allowed to go to the border and do the visa run. More expense yes, and maybe if your overstay is more than a week or so, they might take you to the International Airport, bye bye.

We get to Ban Laem and no problems. Back on the bus and heading to BKK and the tour guide tells the story. " Police in Poi Pet have begun to stop buses prior to the border and remove overstayers and take them back to BKK for processing. Do not overstay, even for 1 day, you may find yourself way outside the law and could become very difficult for you. Eventually they will head to Ban Laem".

No doubt when more rescources become available, this could become very tricky. Also cracking down on cig's and spirits, 1 carton cig's and 1 litre of spirits per person.

Leave it up to you. I know nothing of bandwidth etc, but maybe BK or Dr Love could put a large sign somewhere, so it grabs everbodies attention when they log in or whatever.

I used the Ban Laem van run a number of times last year too. Very professional and orderly, and exceedingly convenient for me with a pickup at Ekkamai and dropoff within walking distance of my apt. The little market on the Cambo side of the border has some great prices on Penagra and Ziagra (as low as 135 baht per 4 pac when you buy a carton of the latter), makes the trip worth it, lol! Also very quick, and I didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get the Poipet bus out of Mo Chit. They do a quick lunch of khao pad gai (chicken fried rice) en-route and hand out bottled water and those little cans of iced-coffee.

Tnks, Barra, for the information.

I think the Ban Laem is the best way to do a visa run. Perhaps on weekends, Jack Golf is even a better alternative than the 'thaivisarun' van tour.

I've been to Poi Pet last week by train. Police were not interested in checking passports of foreigners. There is a check on the way back to the train station though. Tuk tuk have to stop.

That warning from Barrafish should be taken very seriously! Seems the winds of wrath have shifted a bit...

see: http://i-newswire.com/pr56752.html

an excerpt:
"Ranong 12 finally set free"
RANONG: “The Ranong 12”, a group of 12 foreign tourists arrested on the morning of February 8 for overstaying their visas, were freed on Sunday, February 12. The most that any of the 12 had overstayed was six days. Others were just 24 hours over the limit.

During their five-day ordeal they spent the first two nights on dirty police cell floors in Kapoe District and the next two locked up in minibuses on overnight journeys to and from Bangkok, where they were sent to be processed for deportation. The detainees were eventually spared deportation from Bangkok following successful negotiations between their embassies and top Immigration officials in the capital. They were then returned, still under detention, to Ranong, from where they finally left the country under expulsion orders. They then re-entered the country as free men and women on new tourist visas. The arrests have caused confusion and fear among foreign tourists and resident expats, who for years have been able to depart the country after overstaying – within reason – their permit-to-stay by simply paying a 200-baht-a-day fine. There seems to be a new way to do a visa run to Poi Pet (for the cheap charlies like myself).

Casino sponsored tours:

- They leave Lumpini MRT on half hour interval between 4.30am and 6.30 am.
- DeLuxe Tour buses with free lunch coupon (onboard refreshments too)
- Fees range from 100 to 200 baht one way.

It seems they start to return to BKK around 1.00pm.

I am going to try it on Saturday. Wiil report.
