I wonder how they can enforce the 90 day abroad first before they allow you in again.

This would certainly not ber appreciated by other countries leaving Thai nationals in.

I think it would be pretty easy for them not to let you back in,,,

and tourist visas are not multiple entry, so if you leave and cum back, you just got a new visa

I am wondering if you apply for a 60-day tourist visa at an Embassy/Consulate and then extend that in-country for 30 days, if they would still have a problem letting you enter the country after 90 days...

good time to start a marriage agency, if you can't get a retirement visa, get a wife + 400,000bt in the bank, problem solved, if it doesn' cost to much for her to go away, but that should be taken of in advance

I'd hate to think it's retroactive. I haven't seen anything concerning. I mean like if you already have 3 stamps, does the time frame start brand new on the first of the month, or............

What about the frequent traveller from countries nearby that come on business often but for a few days each time? Say the banker from Singapore or the lawyer from Hongkong? He/she may come each week for 4 - 5 days over a long period of time.
Those kind of people, as I would assume them to be better organized, simply get an appropriate visa from the Thai embassy/consulate in their respective countries - this only affects VoA visas.

This is the problem with parallel threads.

Most of the questions posed here was answered by Ballsburstin in this thread:

koolbreez, From what I read the "checking" is retro-active,, as in if you have had three consecutive Visa on arrivals in the last 6 months your F*ked.

Which entry points are most poular for Visa runs?

I intend to stand on the Thai side of the visa points with a copy of a 12 month work contract, waiving same and yelling BARGAIN only 100,000BHT

Jokes aside, I wonder what these people will actually do,,, denied entry, perhaps have an air-ticket booked BKK - London but can't re-enter Thailand,,, a conundrum. Not to mention stuck on the wrong side of the Cambo or laos border,,, would make an interesting documentary.

So koolbreez, if you already have 3 Visa on arrivals in the last 6 months DO a LOT of thinking BEFORE your next visa run.

AHHHH another idea,, how about one of those instant and 24hr per day wedding set-ups like that had in Vegas,,,, Wedding chapel at boarder, lines of available Thai gals waiting,,,, mmmmmmmmmm,,, bus loads of soon to be denied re-entry farangs.

In the Thai Visa forum it is now being reported that Immigration Officials are saying that the change is NOT retroactive. This means that everyone will have until the end of the year to get their situation straightened out.

However it is also advised by Sunbelt Asia that until there is an official announcement by the Immigration Department nothing is 'Set in Stone'.

If it means anything, when Indonesia went from Visa Exemption to Visa on Arrival it took about 6 months from announcement to implementation but there was no 'Official' implementation date. I arrived in Jakarta one day and they told me I had to buy a visa for $20. It has been that way since...

For those spazzing out over this situation (of which, arguably, there are not many), why can't you just head back to your home country, or a friendly surrounding country, and get an appropriate visitor visa (i.e NOT VoA) at the local consulate?

Certainly, there may be a handful of folks who simply can't go back to their home country (boo hoo), but there's certainly plenty of alternatives to work within the system.
