This is my third trip to Poipet. I've walked around to most of the Casinos, and although I've seen a few nice looking girl, can someone please tell me why they all seem so unfriendly? Not many smiles, no hellos.......nothing.

Well I lived in a town 50 kilometers away further north -
But that border crossing is well known to me-
There is actually a good disco in Auranyaphret the town a few Kilometers from that border crossing-
P4p is around but not for Farangs Passe-
Massage places for 200 baht 150 extra gets you a smoke (blow job ending)
The Kymer happy faces you see are mostly just struggling people-
The Thais faces have no real plastered on interest for farangs-
Land of smiles it may be but many woman around these parts have sisters or daughters south screwing men who have to renew Visas like yourself-
There is a mix of indifference- resignation- contempt-
Girls more exposed to P4p will instantly respond to a westerners presence-
Up north in those parts you just a "no Body "...but its different if you hang around-
most know your there and renewing-
Hang around the place and they will go after your wallet with their wears-
Basically aside from the large criminal activities in and around that border - Its a Hick town-
The disco I previously mentioned is next to the Bus station-
But again its mainly students you cant just pick up anyone - and few offer-
How you nab them is really late in the piece (get phone number) then call them outside to go to your room-
Sex tourist farangs are not so welcome -
The main reason they dont smile is face-
They think if they do your "thinking they are available " which paradoxically most are- but dont want you to know as they think your not able to or interested-

Example - Hooker returns from pattaya to this town suddenly she is straight -
Would never dream of doing you or appearing interested-
She tends fields and goes temple-
But sit next to her on a bus back to Pattaya the hooker hat goes back on and she will try nail you second bus arrives if you strike up a chat-
Even if you nab them privately up country its on-
But some resent the looks-
Its a difficult mind game to play-
I use fruit-
Ask a question like directions no smile - no thank you's
When they tell you its a ice breaker - hold out a small lychee or something similar then smile-
If they refuse its 9/10 no game on-
If they (a) help in direction
(b) Take fruit
Its step b and your creativity- but usually the game on both sides will be on-
Trick is keep a blankish face and quickly navigate to a situation they give either a number or immediately follow for a cool drink- maybe excuse-
Aranyaphret is not that hard- just not on a platter like Bangkok Or pattaya where its 100% open season to "hello I want go with you style"

Footnote many thai /cambodian crossing have a natural tension-
My wife saw cambodians back in 1975 when she was very young blow out her aunties brains (pol pot)
the fake westen smiles and edict are reduced in such places- the thais dealing with us do not act this way back home-
Believe me its Grim Bros stuff- almost uncool to smile-
But laugh they do sometimes -
Bottom line its their country and they resent us to some extent having money and easier existence-
But hang around and soon they eye the benifits be it selling a chang or pimping their ripe 18 year old daughter to you on the absolute Hush

Yeah...they resent us having more money than them, but they would not even consider the option to work to make money...allway the easy way : scam, cheat, steal, play lottery and if all those fail then sell their daughter's body.
Last year on Thai TV I remember being shocked at seing an advert showing a lazzy farmer, doing nothing of his days except drinking and play cards.
Then he start to work and is surprised to make money...
so he work more and make more money...

It was ridiculous to say the least, but the TG who was with me thought it was perfectly normal and "good to teach Thai people this way"
Go to some suburbs of bangkok (out side the farang places), at 10AM nothing is open...and at 5PM they start to close...not that they worked hard for those few hours, more often than not they just sleep in their shop and if you ask something you get the "mai mee" treatment and clearly annoy them
Now go to Chinatown...8AM most shops are open, they close about 7PM and if you go ask for something you will get 2 or 3 people taking care of your order...
And the Thai wonder why the Thai-Chinese have all the money and are jealous????

The area This Post relates To Madfrog is alittle different-
About 65 kilometers to the north my wifes families Farm is situated-
Unlike issaan the water is plentiful so Crops are easily more grown-
In all my life I have never seen people toil so hard-
Cows and oxen and crops ranging from Rice to Potatoes and palms-
A typical day began at 5am - Grass would be cut out by some field to feed the new born Calfs and mothers who stay with their Mother for about 10 days (the mother eats the grass bales baby suckles) while thats going on Machinery is checked and fires lite and food cooked-
Passing monks at 6am get their offerings from most house hold woman and offered a 15 second chant-
Their day began at 330am and chanting by 415 am a full hour-
Small fish and the odd rat is caught in and alround the fields and added to the breakfast table-
Usually the father has a long day mapped out in the fields and Mother walks the cows unless its weekend, or they pay a man 150 baht to do so-
That is a long day 7am and returning at 5pm-
All I saw were elderly sleeping or making mats etc - but the young all worked Under 55-
Unlike Issaan the alcohol white whsiky was not so pronounced - Religion was much bigger-
It has to be said Madfrog is correct about many regions of Thailand in the North east being as he said-
However some are depending on Oppurtunity very hard working-
The rice Buyers that venture to near by Cambodian especially-
Making chocaol or spiltening wood for hours all womans work-
In fairness and balance some Thais are very hard workers where the land is concerned-
At least in Kuri kai and areas where Cattle also are many and crops recieve good rainfalls

I dont know this area so I trust you DG, there are likely some hardworking and honest farmers in Thailand...
But in my trips in Issan all I seen was lazzy ass Thai "farmers" doing nothing all day long except sleep/drink/eat/gamble/look at rice growing, or even better :
working hard doing the most illogic farm stuff that could only end up in disasters...but its "the Thay way" and no way to make them understand they only loose both time and money doing it this way.
Like keeping their pigs in such small and dirty pens that all they could do was die of sickness..."feeding" the female pigs with their baby that just died of sickness and being surprised they dont want to eat it ?!??
or "feeding" chickens with polystyrene beads instead of grains and being surprised they dont grow and die...
Or putting so much fertiliser in the fields that it burn everything including the farmer hands and poison the drinking water...all this despite his son who tell him not to put so much, but no "fertiliser vely good, me put more MORE me want make more rice, MORE money!!!"
(those examples are from a text writen by a Thai student of the SET foundation...he is a clever young guy and even him cant believe how dumb the farmers of his village are...)
or doing shrimp "farms" after shrimp "farms" and being surprised the soil dont grow anything afterward because of the salt...easy money once, HAPPY HAPPY, then land ruined for decade afterward, "no ploplem, little Noi can go pattaya soon! She no need go school she lady..."
So no, of course not ALL Thai are stupid, lazzy and dishonest, but on average a tourist is VERY likely to meet only the stupid,lazzy and dishonnest ones...simply because they are lazzy (and dishonnest) they prefer to gang on any place where the farang are to try and scam them...
And the BG are no exception, most could do a living doing something else, but its more easy to rent their pussy for "big money" and anyway its so much fun to go disco with friends and get drunk every night SANUK MAK MAK.
They dont want to do anything else and for sure dont want to work at all.
How do I know?
I tried twice to help some girls who I thought were deserving help (no, not girlfriends, and no not f***ing them as a reward)
just setting them up with some decent, easy and well paid jobs, providing/paying everything needed to make it as easy and smooth as possible for them...guess what...both time they did not even pretend to try to do the job, just runaway with everything they could steal and back to the bar!
So no, I no longer pity them, they sell, I buy...

... as you, I've seen way too much if this behavior to write it off as just incidental... I believe it is pattern behavior that is far more common, bordering prevalent, than anyone wants to admit.
... while we've seen it, I have been long confounded by WHY... I believe I have happened upon a significant reason, and refer you to the discussion in another thread talking about a huge public health probem in Thailand that will plague it for the next century... low IQs.

Look I lived in the Border area region on this Threads topic-
They work very hard alright-
Its kinda humbling to have to point out something that is widely known throughtout Thailand to all Thais-
Issaan the (main focus of Madfrogs remarks) is as he says lazy-
Its no suprise most Hookers come from there-
But to be fair to them they dont have the same rainfalls as other regions and are poorer by far-
Thais resent them alot-
If I tried forinstance to play Issaan music in my wifes village it would not be popular-
Issaan and the antics there is no excuse for poor information here-
While Madfrog does to his credit state he believes me when I say in that region they work extremely hard-
The band wagon guys with little Knowledge just do their best to say my info is false.
Common sense tells the reader Thailand produces alot of rice-
Not all are slack-
My wifes Father is on his second crop this year-
I dont mind reading sour garpes and all the rest - but spare the reader gross silliness if you think most farmers in Thailand sit around-
Its actually really suprising that this forum is in this instance so lacking where truth is concerned-
As I said they work from sun up to sun down -
Issan might be the exception but Thailand is much bigger than that-

Actually population wise Isaan is the largest area of Thailand, with the influences of Isaan spread throughout Thailand, except into the deep South. I always like the saying that "all roads lead to RoiEt", the center of Isaan, and if you look at a map, they do.
You can find lazyness anywhere you look in Thailand, if that is what you are looking for. On the same note, you can find hard work anywhere you look, if that is what you are looking for. It is only a matter of perception, and what you chose to see.
As far as P4P at the casinos at PoiPet, you just get a room in one of the casinos, then tell the bellman exactly what you want, and how much you will pay, tip him a few hundred baht, then there will be a knock on your door in a very short time. Everything is done through the bellmen. Once the door closes then you will see smiles, but be sure to tip the bellman, or you could end up with more knocks on your door from those that do enforce the no P4P rules in Cambodia.
