what is a salary (per month) you can live well on here? in my opinion, assuming you have no other costs, 80,000 a month is a very decent wage here! -18K = rent and power (good apt) -2K = internet on phone/apt -3K = mrt/bts/taxi -15K = red wine (I drink like water) -20K = general living -20K = savings any disputes? atl

As a baseline to work from consider the technical requirement to maintain a retirement visa, that being making bt65,000 a month, or maintaining bt800,000 for the year in the bank, as the financial requirement. This is a comfortable living amount that also gives you the ability to afford a live-in girlfriend that doesn't have to work.

atl, also make sure you're making 80,000 B after tax, otherwise you'll have to factor that in as well.

... for 'getting by', this might be okay if you are here on a limited engagement... I think THB 80,000 is thin for a longer run of it. ... amortizing an annual trip home for a couple of weeks for one (flight, car rental for some of that time, food a nd entertainment, gifts, etc.), factor in another THB 6,000+ per month. ... unless you are prepared to risk Thai public medicine, add something for medical, dental. ... a 3-day weekend upcountry, or nearby, maybe once every 2 or 3 months... say, THB 6-8,000 per trip for room, food, modest ground transportation... include another THB 2-3,000 per month... add to that if you fly anywhere, or include any heavy entertainment. ... I'd include a separate line item for food, since THB 20,000 in your General Living line item would really allow nothing for dining out.

atl, I have one dispute... there is no way you will be able to save 20K a month, on an 80,000/month salary.
