On every Ývisit to LOS, I'm somewhat befuddled, by the
number of young, Ýmiddle aged and geriatric males , who have chosen to settle down & spend the rest of their lives in LOS'
The geriatrics & retirees have my complete goodwill & blessings . They've done whatever they had to do in life. ÝLOS is indeed a great place to spend one's twilight years & then pass on to the Happy Hunting Grounds.
What confuses me somewhat, Ýis the number of youngish & middle aged men who have decided to spend the remainder of their lives in LOS (the ubiquitous English teacher Ýepitomizes this breed) .
Are such people dropouts', analogous to the 60s' Hippies, and/or failures in the western concept of success (that is, the financial rat race)? Don't they get somewhat bored after (say) a month Ýof unbridled screwing? - I certainly do. Ý
What is so alluring about LOS after (say) a month
for a Ýman who happens to have better financial prospects elsewhere?
I've also noticed that 100% of elderly men who have chosen to spend the rest of their days in LOS , orginate from America, Europe, + Australia. ÝI've never come across Ýelderly Japanese, or Chinese, males spending the rest of their lives in LOS. Anyone care to suggest the reasons for this apparent anomaly ?
Watching scantily clad females cavorting on the beach for the rest of one's life Ýis a great career for a male over 75 years, but is it really that scintillating for (say) a 30 year old ? ( Ýemphasize : spending the REMAINDER of one's life). Ý Ý

man, this country is addictive! so i can fully understand anyone turning ones back on boring europe and america with its feminazi female population.
woman all over the world are after security and money, but i am rather treated nicely in asia when i am the atm!!!
from that point of view you can conisder me a dropout of western society and i'll never regret this decision since a first discovered the Asian heaven in the not so gentle age of 30, but that is already some moons ago!!!

Who says we have better financial prospects outside the country? I earn nigh on the same here as i do there.....but I pay 20% of the rent....plus I get the rent from my house at home....Food is cheaper, everything is cheaper bar wine......
unbridled screwing???...whats that??....be surprised, there is a huge farang population here who live, work are successful and rarely visit the bars....and more rarely have a take out.

2) ZIpper is possibly Hermanolobo in disguise, trying to unriddle his question in the thread about THailand as a phase. He is still waiting for an answer on that one ands I am still waiting for a Rap about it, from him.
Zipper if you can make your above statement by rapping, we'll be a bit more clear here.
3) Yurune, I think you are right. A good example is MR Joe who attends this forum regularly but actually stays at home with his wife, chooses business colleagues with iron will aginst temptation and actually is a Gentleman.

I can only speak for one middle-aged drop-out. Basically, I'd come to find life in the West thoroughly unfulfilling, and feel 10 times more alive in BKK. Whatever else it may be, the City of Angels is never, ever boring - and after a year of living here permanently, I find I'm enjoying the place more than ever. Slightly to my own surprise, I have only one real regret Ý- and that is that I didn't drop out 10 years sooner.

Who wouldn't? But then it's really only tourists who indulge in 'unbridled' screwing. Obviously the dynamics change completely when the easy availability of good sex ceases to be a 2-week window of opportunity in your year and instead becomes a permanent backdrop to your life. Back in the West, how many people gorge themselves on chocolate cake every day just because they can?
Unlike Yurune (& many other expats), I make full use of the local P4P facilities and still get a great deal out of this - in fact, more than I ever did when coming here as a tourist. ÝBut I certainly don't bang 3 different women a day or anything like that. I think that sort of compulsion disappears very quickly once you're not operating under artificial time constraints.
Who cares about money? Money for what? I was lucky enough to find fulfilling & quite demanding work quite quickly in BKK. This pays only a fraction of what I was earning in London, but the cost of living is much lower and it's enough to do what I want. Accumulating useless resources while your life gurgles ever more rapidly down the plughole is exactly the kind of absurdity I wanted to get away from.
Many people who come here don't want or need a job. However, to anyone in this boat I would strongly recommend finding something meaningful to do - unpaid charity work or something like that. ÝIt should go without saying that a life devoted exclusively to hedonism isn't actually likely to be very enjoyable. Ý Ý

No: I LOVE LOS , but for short periods only. Let me add that I've been to LOS more than 20 times & enjoyed it every time. BUT staying in LOS permanently ? Not my cup of tea. Max stay could be more like three weeks.

A couple of buddies of mine, now sold up their businesses, split their time between UK and LOS, say 6 months each in any one year.
Seems to work for them having a UK income, and enjoying all the pleasures of LOS ( not just women) for as much time as they think is good for them
