The entrance to Alibaba's - the popular discotheque and thumping underworld of one of Nana's longest-running, most belovedly lawless hotels - opens, portentously enough, with a "No Firearms" sign and a guard who is quick to frisk down any customer trying to slip in with a private bottle of whiskey (don't bother).
Past this, and the throng of men dancing to an Arab-tinged track of "Sexyback" (the club's real point of mirth), is Bee - in big hair, thick make-up, and sequins - who, this night, like most nights, is stationed on a bar stool"doing business".

Thanks for the link. It's a very illuminating and sad story.
Here's my take.
When I used to live in Bkk, I was always partial to the working girls from Uzbekistan and Russia etc. I've always preferred variety apart from TGs.
I'd always been aware that many of them were trafficked, and yes, I guess you could say I was guilty of violating their rights somewhat. But I've always been nice and fair and treated them well, both in monetary compensation and in other ways.
There is a distinct minority who had been trafficked, sometimes willingly, and who are now 'independent' operators, particularly in Bkk. They actually have some interesting stories to tell.
I used to have a small bunch of them as my semi-regulars, and at least half of them started out with bosses/pimps, but were working on their own eventually. Hence the part in the article about turning freelance after clearing their debts is pretty spot on.
Moving on to the article itself, I noticed nothing was mentioned about eg. the Thai police's collusion in trafficking and turning a blind eye to foreign prostitutes in LOS. There was at least an allusion to it though: "Is it possible for foreign people to organise such kinds of unclean business without help and support from locals?"
Or even partaking in it. I'm sure some of the Thai guys I saw at some of the Bkk venues (both in-hotel brothels and clubs) for Uzbek/Russian prostitutes were cops _not_ out to arrest them.
By the way, could this be a reference to forums including bkktonite?:
That said, Alibaba's is hardly the only establishment in town to grace the "Russian girls in Bangkok" webboards.
Anecdotal evidence along with the always chatty community of online sex tourists suggests that Uzbek women are in a handful of centrally located hotel discotheques and lounges...
The most striking thing about the article was this:
While Dieselberg and FFW would surely support immigration-amending efforts, they'd also both contend that officials should turn their attention away from the ladies and start targetting traffickers.
Amen to that.

Dunno about the pattaya scene, but yea at CM2 the more attractive ones go for 7K st. Bargainable down to 6K or even 5K, but quite rarely. Not so attractive ones _can_ be bargained down to 5K (sometimes even starting at that fee).
The higher prices for russians limit my experiences with them, but I've had about 3 years to do so, and I can't really complain. Especially the ones where 5-7K sometimes brings it up to medium-long time, if they like you. Most of my semi-regulars were like that.
