AIZAWL: Deeming that sex on hallowed portals was ''desecration'', a church in Mizoram was shut down for a week after an unmarried couple was found making love on its porch. The couple was caught having sex on the porch of the United Pentecostal Church (northeast India), located at Darnam locality in Serchhip, on the night of November 14 by Vanlalsanga, a church elder.
"The act of sex on the premises of the church was considered a blasphemy and the church was closed for a week. It was opened after a pastoral board meeting pardoned the couple,'' Vanlalsanga said on Thursday.
Most of the church denominations in the state regard pre-marital sex as a ''grievous sin''. Earlier, some churches have been dismantled due to ''desecration'' by couples making out and were opened again only after rebuilding and cleansing.
In the incident at the United Pentecostal Church, the meeting of the pastoral board decided not to dismantle the church as the act was performed on the porch. The board also pardoned the couple for their ''profany in the name of God'' and the church was opened again for religious services.

Well, my guess is.. most of the population of Mizoram is Christian, so the couple was probably Christian too and they could not find a Hindu temple to do their sacred act on the porch of. Now, performed with a temple as the backdrop, that would have been Kama Sutra revisited -- but given current dispositions in these unholy times the reaction could have been even worse than the Christians'.

A member recently told me that he managed to get a ST for only 800 B in Mumbai. There was supposed to be some higher end ones for about 2-3,000 B. I don't want to imagine what he got for 800 B though.

If you want peace and solitude you can visit Moonar, it is situated on a mountain surrounded by tea plantations and a lot of greenery. You could also visit the back waters of Kerala and also some wild life sanctuarys' there. Dec, Jan are the right months to visit as it is quite cool in most places. Kodaikanal is also very beautiful and is located near Madurai in tamilnadu.

Firstly Prabal did not say what you attribute to him. Read his post again, he was quoting another poster who is now in turn likely laughing his ass off.
Secondly I did not intend to stoke any negativity about India in you. I was referring strictly to sexcapades and your quest for Kama Sutra. Recall. Or, better yet, re-read.
Bro TheWiz has given you some excellent tips.
Now, if you really wanted quiet and solitude.... I mentioned to you earlier that the places you cited --Shimla, Darjeeling -- were all very much on the tourist beat which you said you wanted to avoid.
To tie in with TheWiz' excellent recommendations, I would add, from Kodaikanal you can catch a few hours' taxi ride and ascend another hill resort called Ootacamund (which I liked more than Kodai). If you wish to retreat in time to the British Raj times, take the Blue Mountain toy train instead, from the base of the Nilgiri hills. From Ooty (as it's called) you can take another short ride down to Coonoor an army base town with some excellent tea and coffee plantations.
