I agree with the above post, but my experience was that each lor had a group of obviously working girls of different nationalities. I don't think a straight girl would be caught dead standing around lors 14-20 in evening or night. fyi, Short time hotels all 10 sing, bring condoms.

chili, You seem to have your facts mixed up. In the US the worst that will happen if you proposition a 'good girl' is that her brother and his friends will come and cut your balls off. The police really do not care. However in Singapore, if you read the local police blotter, it happens on a fairly regular basis especially if you are a foreigner. The Geylang area has been cleaned up a lot with the police taking action to restrict the girls from the local coffee shops and limit them to the licensed houses. This is because its current MP, Chan Soo Sen is a PAP high-flier who aside from being Minister of State for Education and Minister of State for Trade and Industry has been tapped as part of the 'New Generation of Singapore Leaders'. But if you do not believe this go ahead and try and we will read about it on the police blotter...

Actually, in cities like LA and San Diego, 'straight' women being accosted is one of the pretexts the cops use for allocating so much manpower to vice and street-level prostitution enforcement. In some areas of San Diego, ANY girl walking down the street has a good chance of being ogled, accosted, or even assaulted by pimps! As for Geylang, I have only been once, recently, and walked from lor 16 to lor 4 (?) in a zig-zag, covering every street, from about 4PM until 6PM, and the working girls were everywhere, and totally obvious. They seemed to take a dinner break around 5PM, but then reappeared just as I was leaving, around 6PM. Kind of hilarious to see a farang couple (gwailo couple?) wheeling their bags from a taxi to a Hotel 81, right in the heart of the brothel scene. Gotta love internet booking... hs

I agree with haam sup; the several times I've stopped through Geylang in the past, I've walked all over the route including the alley ways, checking out the street girls and stopping in the fishbowl houses and the non-fishbowl houses. The street girls were obvious to spot. Most are pretty aggressive in salesmanship. The Chinese street girls were less so but still obvious (i.e., why is that girls standing in the middle of this alley way getting chatted up by passing strangers). Do civilian women get accosted? Sure. But that's not because there's subtlety in telling a working street girl from a civilian. It's because some people behave like idiots.

Isn't Minister of State for Education Gan Kim Yong or RADM Teo? Isn't Minister of State for Trade and Industry S Iswaran or Lee Yi Shyan? http://app.sgdi.gov.sg/listing.asp?agency_subtype=dept&agency_id=0000004564

Yep, fanfare on the streets that spread over many lorongs (soi), both even and odd-numbered. The cat-n-mouse game with the local cops is interesting to watch too shall one be in the vicinity during a raid. Very contradictory, the fishbowl in geylang is kindergarden compared with LOS.. only 10+ per small bowl per legal house.

I never saw even 10 girls in the 'fish tank' here, but you're right the deal is not that great at least for us ang mo's who get a 100% surcharge (80$ vs. 40$) that even thai MPs would be shy to rip us off with! So actually I prefer to have my fun down in the Jakarta sex candy store instead so was wondering why this forum don't even feature an Indonesia section?

Report from Bangkok Post dated Friday 5 October 2007 :- Singaporeans are Asia's gloomiest ========================== Singapore - Singaporeans are the gloomiest in Asia when it comes to their futures while Indians are the most optimistic, a study found Friday. Although they purchased the most insurance in the region, the city-state's residents have the lowest level of confidence and satisfaction about life among 2,400 respondents from eight economies. The findings of the study conducted by AXA Life Insurance were published in The Straits Times. Singapore emerged with the lowest score of 59.2 on AXA's Life Outlook Index, compared with the regional average of 71.6. India topped the list with 87.2, followed by the Philippines at 85, China at 75.1, Thailand at 74.3, Indonesia at 69.9, Hong Kong at 67.7 and Malaysia at 66.2. The negative outlook of Singaporeans is "somewhat surprising" with the city-state's strong economic growth and high standard of living, said Annette King, chief marketing and strategy officer. The sentiment may have been partly influenced by volatility in the stock market in addition to the government's emphasis on retirement planning, she said.
