Went through there last week on a trip to Singapore. Very busy with a real United Nations of Free Lancers lining the Footpaths. Indo's, Viet's, Chinese plus many other nationalities.

Just a little bit more on Geylang. I was there 11 Dec. - 13 Dec...
As the previous poster pointed out, the streets have freelancers from just about every corner of Asia, grouped by country (common language, I suppose). By far the largest population is Thai, with China a close second, and various Indonesian, Malay, Indian spread around. Most of the street girls start out at 60 dollars Sing, but quickly negotiate down.
The houses also are segregated by ethnicity, and there seemed to be about an even number of Thai and Chinese. Prices for ang mo (white guys) seem to be 80 - 100 Sing dollars for 50 min. Signs, which look like they were official, proclaiming condom usage for oral sex, are in every shop.
One house, which only had about 2-3 Chinese girls, was run by a woman. Her rooms had all manner of rope slings and trapezes, and a clear shower stall ensuite. The bed was motorized, and kind of went "humpy-humpy" in the middle. Totally surreal, the mamasan was so proud of the room that she showed it to me BEFORE she showed me the girls. The girls here were 150 for the buxom one, and 100 for the smaller one. Both were pretty cute, but kind of theatrical-looking.
The main street, Geylang Rd., is very tailored to Thai tastes, including Thai food, Thai DVDs, and the usual trappings of a Thai red-light district.
A Viet cutie got my attention while I was sitting at a curbside restaurant, and we slipped away into the night and a Hotel 81.
That port in THAT storm.

Yes absolutely. Thai's, Filipinas & Viet's are the majority working with a a few Indo's & even the odd African!

Hello All,
I'll be in Singapore in 3 weeks and planning to stay in Geyland area
Any advise which hotel to chose? or should I pay few dollars more and stay in a different area?

Definitely pay a little more & not stay in Geylang which is mainly filled with ST Hotel. That is of course if you don't like the sound of closing doors!

Depends on what you are doing and what is your budget.
There are fairly cheap hotels along Bencoolin St. This used to be a backpacker area but most of the hostels have been closed and some mid-range hotels have sprung up. But even then expect to pay above S$100 per night.
The advantage here is that you are near to the Orchard Shopping District, Sim Lim Center, and not too far from town. The MRT is also relitivilty close.
As Oz said whilst Geylang is cheap it is mainly made up of residences, worker dorms, and a few short-time hotels for the streetwalkers who inhabit the local coffeeshops.
If your target is those streetwalkers then you should look at some of the East Coast hotels. The Roxy at Marine Parade or the Amber Hotel are a short taxi ride from the Geylang area.
Note also that many non-chain hotels in Singapore are NOT girl-friendly and it maybe hard to get visitors in after hours. That is probably why there are so many short-time hotels in Geylang.

The Roxy has the advantage of being close to the Paramount Hotel, another place to play if you like over the top Flippers!
