Hi all. Never been to Phillipines before and a mate and myself are going there in July. Both have done a lot of reading but one thing not sue of is money changes. Been to Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai many time and you can change money down the street at the money changes. How about Angeles? Do we take Auzzie $'s and change them there or what is the best way to go. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

In Manila there are exchanges everywhere in the street. You can change Aus $ too. The current exchange rates is (6th May 2011) 1 US$ = 42.80 Peso. Before you change make sure to check in atleast 2-3 exchanges to get the best rates. Cheers.. Raj

Koala,the best initial indication of the exchange rate you are likely to be offered is the number of people waiting to exchange money.
The more persons waiting the better the rate.
However,between money changers the difference in rates offered will only be small,but if you are changing say 1 to 2000 A$ it is worth comparing rates,and for that amount you should not accept even the best rate you find as,in my experience,money changers in the Philippines will usually improve on their advertised rate for larger amounts.
Of course you should avoid changing money at hotels where the rates offered are much less than money changers who are also generally better than banks.
But you are also more likely to be short changed by money changers,so be sure to count your pesos before leaving the shop.
There are about 6 money lenders,more or less next door to each other,in the main street in Angeles City opposite to the Jeepney terminal,and they offer much the same rates as you will find in Manila.
