Hmmm, I went out for a bit of a barhop a couple nights ago (the 15th) and it seemed to be business as usual. And that was the night of this supposed crackdown. Am going out tomorrow again, will see what I can find out.
Btw, that new Atlantis mega-bar opened up last week. Next to Carousel. Opened up by the Dollhouse crew, and they seemed to have moved over a large number of their dancers (and only a few of the fat ones). Kinda massive inside with a couple floors of seating setup in a Roman amphitheater tiered design. The decor seems a bit sterile, and the music is pretty f'ing loud. Apparently there is a sushi bar onsite, but I didn't try that out. 85p for local drinks. Only 1 pool table at 15p a game.
They seem to be going for the same setup as Dollhouse: regular dancers, show dancers, and spotlight girls. Most of the "spotlight" girls would benefit from darker lighting though.... eeesh. Time to get those chicks on a diet. Spotted quite a few slim lookers in the regular lineup though.

Was out for the drinks the other night with the gf, and watched a crazed and "drunk as a skunk" trike driver weave by us (in the wrong direction of the 1 way street) and crash into the police barricade at the foot of fields avenue. We watched a small crowd gather as the two tourist policemen stationed there tried to get the driver to show his papers. While the driver kept hammering at his kick starter to get his trike going again. Eventually the driver handed over his papers, and the policemen waved him on. He was so drunk that he was having a hard time staying balanced on his seat!
Mindblowing to say the least. Go Philippines!

The place (city, country, whatever) is f***ed up, but it is part of the appeal.  I remember the last time I spent 4 days in Philippines then flew to Bangkok thinking how nice it would be to come back to a "civilized" place.

CG, glad you find an "appeal" to this place...
Been here for few years myself, and honestly can't take it anymore! The place is a mess, socially, politically, economically, religiously, food-ly, and even girl-ly (can't shake 'em off from clutching to your legs or whatever!).
So "Asia" in many respects, yet so un-Asia at the same time : the hold of the various christian churches - very moralistic and all-controlling, flabbergasting! Feels like I'm in the middle of pre-Enlightenment 13 C Europe!
The food (a misnomer really) : so much junk that it's not even fun anymore - McDs, Jollybees (the local, evertyhing-sweetened version of McD), KFCs, Roy Rogers (!!!), Dairy Queens, and the likes; more traditional version of so-called food is composed primarily of unrefined massive chunks of fat, almost inevitably deep-fried in even more fat; no spices herbs or any form of condiment in local cooking - except for microscopic regional "specialties" (read totally "un-Filipino" to local palates) as they like to refer to them; as for culture, utter refinement in this place is spending ANY free time available in... shopping malls! Yes! The haut-lieu of Filipino culture, hundreds of them around town, all with exactly the same crappy shops, crappy fast food joints, crappy ice cream parlors, each single little shop/booth blasting crappy music at 150dB (even in more upscale malls), with crappy 70%-off sales on "selected items" - actually, these are really the 1953 overstocked items!
And finally, finally, the best of all is the absolute total complete arrogance of the 20-so families (and extended circle of cronies) who control the whole of this country, bribing, stealing, cheating, under-paying, abusing, screwing, killing their way to absolute and uncontested supremacy. Spend a Sunday around Power Plant for fun, with its chauffeured-Humvees and Imelda-type dynosaurs being wheeled around with this look of utter disgust for the surrounding plebe.
And tourists... I mean the average Joe you see touring the region (Asia). They tend to come once to this country, never to return (despite absolutely incredible diving spots!) - over-priced accomodation, poor standard of practices of "hospitality" business in general, un-accomodating business practices (credit cards not accepted, cash prepaid required, full pension compulsory, etc.). Noted exception however of a few mostly Marcos-era nostalgic foreigners (males, principally) who like nothing more than a "proto-American-speaking" (I didn't say "English") ) pre-pubescent-looking girlie in their arms and the equally western-traditional diet of McDs for breakfast/lunch/dinner.
Looking back, I have problems believing that the main thrust of last 20 years of my life was to take me to this... "culmination".
Get me outta here, guys! Fast please!
