I too was a total newbie when I visited Manila last month and I too wasn’t familiar with P. Burgos bars BF structure. Coming from AC, as I was, I found it expensive and puzzling to say the least. But I adapted quickly and found out how things work in a matter of a few hours. From then on things went smoothly, the thing that needs to be said is in these bars, staff (both waitresses and dancers) can be really pushy and testing. They aim to make you spend as much as they possibly can. However having said all of that, if you carry yourself confidently, exuding self awareness combined with polite and friendly attitude, they quickly settle down and let you get on top of things. Girls are far less likely to pull tricks on you back at your hotel room and you keep a tight tab on spending, I never spent more than 7,500 PHP per night, when bar hopping in Makati. Be alert, be switched on, be confident, keep your wits with you and they’ll respect you for that!
Taxi: pleeeeeeeeeeeeease don’t get me started with Thai taxi drivers who pollute the tourists areas in Thailand. Did you hear about the story of Thai tuk tuk drivers, in Phuket, who held farang at ransom, after the Tsunami tragedy? They demanded 600 TBH to ferry them from the wreck of their hotels to a few miles down to the airport. It was like take it or leave it, and most of these tourists had lost their belongings in the aftermath of the Tsunami. I can cite countless of times where Thai taxi drivers pulled the stunt of broken meter on me; to taking a detour of BKK, thinking that I was clueless about the place, with the intent to running the meter to double or triple of the normal fare. The quality of BKK taxis is no better than Manila, some of them wouldn’t pass a MOT test in the West. Again, I’m comparing like-for-like: i.e. Thai taxi drivers in tourist spots against Filipino taxi drivers in tourist spots.
Finally, where I do agree with you is that overall Thai women are better looking and classier than Pinays, no doubt about that. Also BKK has a more vibrant and sophisticated night life, as well as enjoying a better economy. However, Pinay women, compared to their Thai counterparts, make up for a better attitude, and give a more intense and passionate gf experience. In addition to that, as Philippines has not yet reached the level of popular tourist destination, their tourist infrastructures: hotels, road networks, banking, domestic airport and so on need improving. The collateral benefit of this is that they are less exposed to alien cultures and customs thus retaining intact their original national characteristics of friendliness and genuine desire to please (well behaved) foreigners.
Sadly, Thailand is quickly becoming too westernised.

Interesting to read your posts - Baqwuan and Sarge - as I have just returned from a debut trip to Manila. I kind of agree in parts with both of you. My experience:
Now I enjoy a night out and won't leave early so I got back to New World around 5am at the earliest every night of the four I was there. I also spent a fair amount (although not like Baqwuan there!) but only one bar fine as I usually arranged to meet the girls in Billboard and go from there back to hotel.
First night, took a shine to a dancer in a Burgos Street bar and arranged to meet her for a drink at the end of the shift in Billboard which she was happy with (must be those killer Brad Pitt looks eh? ahem...) so no flaming for not paying bar fine please.
She did insist, however, that she come back to the hotel five minutes behind me as she couldn't be seen to be going with a customer without him having paid a bar fine. Hmmmm, took that with a pinch of salt but sure enough she pitched up at the hotel room around 10 minutes after I got back - and she had two friends with her. WTF!
Seemingly, they also wanted somewhere nice to sleep so although dubious (and making sure nothing vauable was lying around) let them stay... and I'm glad I did. Strangely, like Baqwan, I found the one that I chose was the least active of the three but the two I didn't ask top come along certainly went to town on me until we all fell asleep. Now that was a first for me so PI immediately found itself in my good books. Hell, girl number one even left at 8am to go "to study" but returned a couple of hours later to rejoin the fun!
The second night was a bit crap as I got some moose latching on to me and crying that I wouldn't take her etc so that was a downer but nights three and four were with the same 18yo who was as lively as a bag of drowning puppies (pardon the analogy) so again a positive spin on the place.
As for taxis, I simply asked the driver to stick the meter on and didn't ever have a problem on that score.
All in all, I agree the girls are not as hot to look at (in general Hyper) as Thais but the English language factor and the GFE was more sincere and none of the bunch was in any rush to leave or was a clock watcher.
As for costs, sure it is expensive in places but it's all relative I suppose. For the malarkey I got up to I expect to pay but I did find the constant requests for LDs a pain in the arse considering the drinks they were ordering were shots which would disappear in less than a second - hell, they could get through 4-5 while I supped my San Mig! Not good for the wallet!
Having said that, I did have a 'quiet corner of the bar' moment with three babes which just stopped short of FS but involved mutual oral, loads of drinks and came in at 4,000 pesos - definitely a cracking bit of fun for 40 quid!
PI and BKK are different animals but, with a flexible outlook, can be enjoyed equally IMHO

One of the best threads I have read in some time. I am considering a trip to the PI but am reluctant as I have a "sure thing" in visiting BKK. Maybe fear of the unknown, but you guys are selling the PI. Keep the posts coming.

Ok guys I must admit that extended my stay here in Manila a day just so I can tag this one young girl. She needs ID to get into the New World, and did not have it last night, and could not go home to get it, because her parents would freak that she was leaving again. So we will see what happens tonite. She works at a bar where you can't bar fine them, so she is doing some covert after hours business.
Anyways, One thing that I have to Mention about Manila that I never thought I would see. Some of these bar girls dancing and working in these bars are actually still Virgins, and not Virgins for sale either. Meaning that they won't f***. I wanted this one young girl who all the other girls said was a virgin, but she would only go back to my hotel if she had a friend go with her. She did not have any ID, so that ruled the whole matter out anyways. What are you PI experts thoughts on this virgin thing?
That is another point. I would advise not staying at the New World Hotel, just because of this ID issue to get the girls in. Not all the girls working carry their ID, so it is a big show stopper. Especially if you bar fine her and then don't ask her. Reccomend another hotel.

Groover, I actually never tried not to check the girls in. I should have probably went for that option, but some other guy on here said that they had to be signed in, so I guess I had that in my mind. Not to mention the big sign at the reception desk about signing guests in.
All I can say is. It is great to be back in BKK where the girls are definately much HOTTER looking.

Must pop in this thread to add that I totally agree with hyper, sarge and groovers posts. I love Manila and see it as a very real alternative to BKK. Must say that to get the most out of PI (like Thailand) it pays to get away from the big city though.

I only use EDSA when in Manila. You get no hassle & the prices for everything are reasonable. I would never BF on P.Burgos - not good value for money. There are 2-3 bars there which charge the regulation 1000peso but the rest are just a rip off.
Angeles City is good for a weekend - prices are cheaper than anywhere else (Bkk-Pattaya-Manila) just not a lot to do..other than drink & shag!
