In Japan, where there are many "male hostess" club or gigolos, majority of the customers in such clubs are actually women in the sex industry, looking to turn the tables after a days' work and be the one paying for companionship and sex. Here I must dissagree,, Thailand is no longer a truly POOR country. Job opportunities abound in honest work for reasonable pay ( reasonable in terms of Thai cost of living).
20 years ago you would have been correct,, but it's just not true anymore.The hookers working now do so because of greed for money ( 90%) not because they will starve.They "want" that new mobile phone,, "want that gold etc etc. They are NOT working for food.But I agree that the viscious cycle of hand-outs exists,, girl has been working and sending home 20,000BHT a month it would be hard to suddenly get a real job non P4P and only be able to send home 5K.

True too.
Many of em are after or are addicted to the flexible working hours and yet high spending power too much to make the switch.
But on the other hand, with rising transport costs and such, a lady edging it out alone, let's say as a waitress, is gonna face problems with an avg 6.5k salary. Room+utilities.. 3k..transport..necessities.. that barely leaves enough for food, needless to say for any child (s) residing in the countryside or any old folks.
Sad huh? Still pretty much depressed whenever I think about this issue..
Maybe it's too easy for us to judge their moral values when we haven't really ever gone hungry...I for one, have been guilty of judging too quickly at times..

What happened to this thread?
I went in yesterday, and was told by the girls that there had only been like "four customer," and that "many lady no customer."
I was tired, and I did not have a lot of time, so I could not singlehandedly rectify the situation. They might have been slightly exaggerating. I am known, after all, to take four ladies out to dinner at a time, and yes, there have been occasions when we retired for post-prandial, uh, cocktails, afterwards, sometimes running into the early morning, or all night. So the girls all like to be included in dinner plans.
What is not to like? I ring the bell, buy rounds for the house (including every farang punter present), pay bar fines for four girls (Khun L** is happy), I take the girls out for a nice dinner, either seafood or at Fuji (you guys know that Thai girls love Fuji), and yes, the sake flows....then we transition to post-dinner activities. Everyone gets 2,000 baht upon culmination. Not over the top compensation, and I would give more, but we are talking about 8,000 baht in cash outlays, after all, and not a lot of work, and a nice evening, with lots of fun and laughing and good food. This sort of sanuk gets expensive.
I do not force the girls to come. I invite them. And there are inevitably sad looks from those who are not invited. I cannot take them all. I am comfortable, but not filthy rich. And that, indeed, would probably be gluttony. And "selfish," to borrow a term. So, I now have to keep a sort of running tally, and rotate the invitations, because some of the girls make more than others, and they all have bills to pay, and as has been stated, they are independent contractors, and not paid a salary per se by the bar. They get 400 baht out of every 700 baht paid for a blowjob. They get none of a 400 baht bar fine. They keep all of their short time earnings, but they often have to kick back to the bar for this and that.
For example, Khun N** was out for a week because she had a bad tooth. She paid 5,000 baht for her own dental work. She additionally had to pay Khun L** 2,000 baht for missing work. And she lost all the income that she otherwise would have made that week.
She and I spent some time together last night. She explained to me, in the course of conversation, the sort of pressure that she is under from her family to "take care." She does it willingly. She is happy and proud that she is able to help her family. But the girl has responsibilities. And she is 21 years old.
She is going to school. She needs a computer.
She is so lovely, such a nice girl.
She and I had such a nice, quiet time last night, just two people talking about life, taking care of each other.
Some of you will focus to exclusion of all else that this girl is a hooker who works in a blowjob bar.

And they are well-compensated. You will not catch me sipping a single beer for an hour, and arguing over the 200 baht differential between the old price and the new price for a blowjob. I am not saying that I deserve any medals. I like them, they like me, they give me head, conversation, companionship, and lighten my mood, and I give them money. Everyone wins, everyone is happy.

and I disagree with that. The UniGals who graduate from next door here get entry level wages of 8k/month. By the time they rent a place, pay for transportation to/from the office, they have very little left just for eating

As for Khun N** requiring a computer for school / University. I am unsure of second hand PC prices in Thailand but here in Aus they are dirt cheap.
