Hi Bros,

Thanks for the good advice on Koh Samui. Does anyone know of guest friendly places in Siem Reap? I was hoping one someone might have some insight. The whole web experience for Cambodia is a little light to say the least. Any help as always is very appreciated.

Thanks!

I stayed at the Reaksmey Chanreas and brought guests back twice with no problems. It's listed in the lonely planet guide for Cambodia. I got a big comfortable room for $20/night. You can probably bargain on that price and if I stayed there again I'd ask for a room towards the back. It's also in town and a short walk to the local drinking holes and even Martini's. Two doors down from the hotel is Zanzibar a shabby but charming FL bar.

Torq, I think most all of the small guesthouses in SR are guest-friendly. The bigger hotels are not, in an attempt to keep the tour groups coming. I stayed at Ivy guesthouse which is in the center of town and very guest friendly. Gordon's place is also good.

The Mandalay Inn is Guest friendly. It is next to two pick up places and the biggest fishbowl in town. Best rooms are 15$ with continental breakfast. Good ocation near old market. Within walking distance of at least three brothals that I can recall

Yuke's advice is is always a good indication. You can use the rule : "The more you pay, the less you get."
Because if they can ask $300 for a room per night, they are not waiting for YOUR $$$. They cater to an other kind of tourist; the filthy rich. And they (the rich) don't want to mix with lowlifes like us.

But guest friendly and guest friendly are two different things. I was staying in a hotel (can't remember the name; something with "B..... Villa") about 20 minutes walking outside of the town.
I picked it from the canby booklet (it is not on their website now; http://www.canbypublications.com ) because it had $15 rooms with AC/TV shower and refrigerator.
My motodriver asked me why I wanted to stay there. I did not know then that I had probably the only trustworthy moto in the whole country, so I did not listen and ended up in the middle of nowhere.
It was a good hotel, run by a couple of gay khmers. And everytime I came in with my girl there was no problem, but they were saying things to each other that made my girl feel uncomfortable. Maybe it was because they were gay or maybe because she was vietnamese or maybe because she was just a hooker.
