The James Dean look might be there, as he's been dead for quite a few generations, and Tom is almost dead, at least his acting is.

It amazes me the ignorance, blindness of some people. Gay rights has reached such a mainstream place in society that the President of the USA finally finds it politically correct to voice his support for gay marriage.

This isn't some overnight revelation signaling those in the closet to finally come out, It has reached such a mainstream understanding that they are all out of the closet, and have been for a full generation.

With shows on TV receiving top ratings like Glee, and Modern Family in the USA, with a host of other shows in other countries recognizing the gay lifestyle, you'd have to be some backwoods, out on the lonesome station riverboat taxi guide screwing sheep not to see that they've been invading society openly for one full generation, and counting.

There is no fear to society as to what is right, and wrong, just as there is no fear to society that some like butt f***ing, which was, and still is illegal, and considered a moral detriment in a huge number of countries, and can get you killed, or severely punished.

It could be considered the lead in to a gay lifestyle, and signaling a closet secret. It is considered unnatural by far more than consider a gay lifestyle unnatural.

Most that so vehemently reject deviant sexual practices are not secure in their own behavior enough to risk the temptation. They fear the truth about themselves might surface, and not be what they project to others.

The biggest sinners are those that speak out against it the loudest. They are the ones with the most to hide, and by drawing attention away from themselves they hope to hide their secret.

This agenda holds much more than just a social reform in Balance.
How does that matter ? Reform is welcome whosoever or howsoever it rings in. Often politicians, even when they see the need for reform, have to wait for the opportune moment to pass the law.

"It's a polar shift of thousands of years of human traditions."

- Yeah, like the industrial revolution, air travel, internet
and a black president.

"My criticism is not of their rights...but ours."

- How often have we heard that ? Parents have a right to protect their kids from porn, but porn's omnipresent. The orthodoxy thought they had a right not to be assaulted by scenes of men and women kissing in public. Religious leaders think they have a right to ban priests and nuns from having sex. Whites once thought they had a right not to be touched by blacks.

Rights is an easy word to use but it's tough to accept that every living being has a right.

Everything else you said about men holding hands and kissing in public was similarly feared when heterosexual intimacy began to be flaunted in public. Society will get used to it. That's what you need to remember.

What a load of horse hockey.

What you are claiming is anybody that voices a strong opinion about the gay lifestyle actually has latent homosexual tendancies?

Does this same rather strange psychosis also apply to conservative and liberal political discussions? I am very loudly a conservative but now must I reflect on your hypothesis and declare myself a closet liberal?

What about ice cream? I love chocolate and detest vanilla, but now my dedication to chocolate is wavering.

What's a man to do?

PS: The President came out for gay marriage in 1996 when he was running for the Illinois Senate. Of course he came out against it when he ran for the US Senate in 2004 and the Presidency in 2007/08 but never mind the facts. Truth be known, he was lying in 2004/07 and 2008.

Of course he is right.

This is a tactic....the gay lobby employs against people which is unfair.

I treat homosexuals with great respect in my business...they are great spenders in their accounts with huge entertaining bills and countless guests...

All bills paid on time.

I also agree ith legal rights....to a point.

However, I can't agree with lifestyle....

Sorry.

"...are claiming is anybody that voices a strong opinion about the gay lifestyle actually has latent homosexual tendancies?"

See: http://www.livescience.com/19563-homophobia-hidden-homosexuals.html

The researchers were quick to point out that closet homosexuality was not the only thing that could trigger rabid homophobia, but the four studies are pretty convincing that it should be considered as a possibility.

As far as the "But think of the children!" aspect goes, one recent study looked at nearly 90 teens, half living with same-sex couples and the others with straight couples, and found little difference. Teen boys in same-sex households had grade point averages of about 2.9, compared with 2.65 for their counterparts in straight homes. Girls showed similar results, with a 2.8 for same-sex households and 2.9 for girls in straight families. Another study found that kids with two moms or two dads were no more likely than those in "traditional" homes to engage in delinquent activities.

Personally, I take those results with a grain of salt. I think that it takes a lot more commitment for same sex couples to adopt of get custody of children because of the legal roadblocks, so one would imagine this commitment would continue in the upbringing. I think the findings are probably valid, but possibly slightly skewed. With a group of only 90 teens, my guess is that those GPA's are all within the margins of error, and would remain there after being un-skewed.

As far as the horror of seeing guys with hands in each others' pockets, I can live with that as much as I can hetero couples showing passion in public. As I've written, I'm pretty much a cold fish, so I hate any of that crap, except, of course, girls-on-girl, but that goes without saying, as documented by no less of a source than the BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/clips/p008cq9l/mongrels_everybody_loves_a_lesbian_song/

So I say either ban it all (Hello, Saudi Arabia!) or live with it all. I abhor double standards.

Funny you should mention Saudi Arabia. I consider myself something of an expert on Saudi since I lived there for some 25 years so let me wade in on this.

Surprisingly I have no real problem seeing two blokes holding hands, or even giving the odd cheek kiss (face cheek that is). That is a common occurrence and has happened to me more times than I care to remember. I also recall walking down the hall in Saudi Naval Headquarters in Riyadh holding hands with a Rear Admiral...but that's a story better told another time.

I presume, Oosik, you were referring to the old adage about opposite sex couples holding hands or showing affection in public in Saudi when you made your reference. While it is frowned upon by any religious leaders, you would see it with ever increasing regularity in the shopping malls and out of doors.

You won't see opposite sex couples trading spit in public over there however nor will you see any form of outward homosexuality, with the rare exception being the Philippino community. Lots of it going on there. It remains hidden and for obvious reasons.

I think what I object to is the amount of hue and cry coming from something less than 10% of the population and the agenda of the gay community that seems to want to impose their beliefs on the 90% that are not gay. Frankly I have the same feelings towards those atheists that seem to feel everybody should hear their opinions on religion when, if the truth were known, nobody really cares what their beliefs are.

Adults should be able to cohabit with whomever or whatever they wish. Just quit bothering the 90% of us that don't really give a f***.

There is no need to go all the way to Saudi Arabia, just go to the South of Thailand to the largest population banning homosexuality in any form.

As far as tradition goes, going back to the founders of modern thought, and philosophy, the majority favored young boys, Plato, Socrates, Aristotal, and many more, they were all what this generation would call gay peodophiles, and their teachings, and writings are the foundation of Western thought.

The big thing about the gay lifestyle is it is not self perpetuating. There will be no blood offspring, or future generations. It is a deadend course in life.

In the present day's morality in Thailand Bangkok is considered a very liberal element of Thailand. Out of Bangkok something as innocent as kissing in public is looked down upon by couples of the opposite sex, let alone same sex.

Public affection is not displayed to a great extent outside of Bangkok by Thais, and not at all anywhere in public by older Thais, even in Bangkok. It just is not morally the right thing to do.

To parallel loud behavior politically with loud anti-gay bashing as a minority could indeed subconsciously signal latent liberal thoughts. One thing about a conservative is the inability to compromise, no matter what is right, so the overpowering moral fiber of your subconscious forces you to declare your politics loud, and repeatedly to keep this liberal moral subconscious suppressed. God knows what would happen if you were wrong in your politics, you might wake up happy.

"...the agenda of the gay community that seems to want to impose their beliefs on the 90% that are not gay." - I guess it depends on what you mean by "their beliefs". I've never felt any gay guy pressuring me to embrace the lifestyle of man-to-man butt sex. The belief I find them trying to "impose" is that of equality, and I'm a big believer in that, so I'm quite supportive. I would, on the other hand, yank that support in a second if they wanted something beyond what straights get, say some sort of affirmative action allowing them to pound my ass to make up for ass poundings denied their forefathers. That is NOT equality. But I don't really hear that sort of thing. They generally want the same rights: No less, no more. I'm happy with that.

I still, though, favor getting the government out of the marriage business. It just muddies the waters too badly and spawns hysteria among the morons who don't (or don't admit to) know the difference.

The various religious orders should be free to marry or not marry whomever they want, free of government meddling. The government should free to unionize/join/hitch consenting couples without interference from religions.

While we are on religion, I will, conditionally, second expatchuck's view of atheists. The condition is that it must apply to religions, as well. Somewhere I read,

Religion is like a Penis.
It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And please don't try to shove it down my children's throats.

I don't really believe in a god or gods, but there is no way I have the faith required to be an atheist. Still, I can see their angst over having their children indoctrinated in a religion, just as I can see, say, the concerns of Christian parents having their kids pressured into even a different Christian sect's teachings: I have first hand experience in that as I was coerced into the confessional while attending a Catholic school (my parents were Protestants).

That example is a little flawed, but it was the one that came to mind. A RELIGIOUS (but not a secular) school should be free to teach their tenets. My parents did not fault the school: The only decent schools there were Catholic, so they accepted the problem. I, on the other hand, DID get in trouble for it. Thank you, God.

"The big thing about the gay lifestyle is it is not self perpetuating. There will be no blood offspring, or future generations."

Interesting comment, koolbreez. I had always thought that, and it is probably true. There doesn't seem to be any real correlation between gay parents and gay adopted kids. Here is a twist, though: If there is a "gay gene", and research certainly seems to be pointing that way, allowing gays to marry should actually reduce the gay population over time. Why? Because instead of living a lie in the closet and possibly passing on that gene by copulating with a (ugh!) member of the opposite sex in a sham marriage, they will be more likely to adopt. As you wrote, a dead end for that gene.

Of course there are always surrogates, but I imagine that the majority of the non-celebrities would lean more towards the less expensive adoption route.
