Daytime I am still at work but sneeking into the site as I could not wait to write this down.
Arrived yesterday evening from Singapore. Shower, massage for one hour at soi 19 just to start feel BKK. and a hop to Soi Cowboy.
First bar I go to is Long Gun, as usual fantastic show and atmosphere. Decided to look into one more place called............. Entered took a seat next to the bar, and immediatly started flirting with a girl that had a pretty face that was sitting across. Invited her and started talking, after some moments I noticed she had a rich vocabulary of english words but very bad syntax. Me I am not a phonetist err English teacher but something looked queer to me and decided to sort this out. Invited another round of drinks, took her to the corner and after asking fast questions as to her bacground she sunddenly chuckled and after I swore to secrecy, out came this fantastic story:
She's a student at............ University and studying Human behavoir and Psychology. - last year to graduate ( Suddenly her syntax was much better - faking it before). She's writing a thesis for her study together with a friend who is also here at the bar about us as clients - Thai bar animals. Do we have an honest approach to our behavoir ? and what are we hiding. It's called Cognytive Dysonans to those of you who learned Psych a little.
Darned me, never thought a lovely Thai like this would have guts to do this. She was not only beautiful and asserative, just amazing - by the way guys she's there this week only. After she has to write and be done.
Stayed till closing time with her and parted to sleep alone still amazed. Managed to squeeze out her phone and a promise she will show me the thesis.
So now for conclusions: We are probably sometimes a bunch of Chimpanzee's all of us going to the bars. Never thought some one could study us there. Saw some books written by westerners reg bar behavior, but this ?!!

I for one have never experienced "cognitive dissonance" until I have at least six drinks in me.

No anxiety here. Unlike a Chimpanzee (your words) like you I do not do something that is against my beliefs.
I think this bargirl is barking up the wrong tree (tell me, is she a dog).
BTW: Why did you exclude the bar name. Naming bars is not against forum rules and pretty much a requirement for a legitimate posting here (or is your post a lot of BS like the girls theory).

So what do we have here..... Some good response explaining what dissonance is. Aside to that very childish. Isn't it forum rules that if your not 16 years old at least your abilty to analize a situation should not be like one ?

Anyway I got a bad habbit. So the bar and the phone remain with me... you can now start scratchin under your armpits..
